Erin Bagwell shares her journey as a mother and her experience with postpartum depression as well as her experience as a feminist and filmmaker. Erin Bagwell is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, podcaster, maternal health advocate, and mom of two. Touched Out with Amanda Montei
I am super thrilled to be sharing this conversation that I had with Amanda Montei . Amanda is the author of TOUCHED OUT: MOTHERHOOD, MISOGYNY, CONSENT, AND CONTROL , out this month, September, 2023 from Beacon Press. She's also the author of a memoir called Two Memoirs and a collection of prose titled The Failure Age. Amanda's work has been featured in the New York Times , The Cut , Romper , Mother Tongue , Slate , Vox , and more. I came across Amanda's work in 2020 during the pandemic. I had been really drawn to journalists who were writing about motherhood at the time and came across Amanda's work. I subscribed to her newsletter on Substack called Mad Woman and really have enjoyed and learned a lot from her feminist commentary on politics, pop culture, and most of all motherhood. On this episode we talk about touched out, both the book that is coming out, but also the concept. Amanda really unpacks the concept and discusses the sense that once you become a mother, your body doesn't feel like it really belongs to you anymore. Radicalized by Motherhood with Imani Payne
I'm really excited today to share this conversation that I had with Imani Payne. Imani is a parent, consultant, space holder, advocate, and commentator on modern American motherhood. She aims to create a community through connection while sharing her personal matrescence journey online. I found Imani through a reel on Instagram where she talks about how nothing will radicalize you quicker than becoming an American mother. And I really resonated with her message. I think you will too. We get into all of that as well as her experience becoming a mother. Some themes that come up are talking about her ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, secondary infertility, navigating the medical system, and how she ultimately became radicalized by motherhood and how she has worked to unlearn a lot of the societal messages that we all receive.
