Consider this episode a little SOS for those moments of overwhelm which come OFTEN as a parent. It's the simplest reminder you'll ever hear - but perhaps the most profound. 'Mindful Mama' is my gift to you. Your chance to stop, reflect, breathe, or just give yourself five minutes alone. These are short episodes themed around the unique trials of parenthood (and general life in 2022). So listen in the car, in the bath, or locked in your bedroom while the kids are watching YouTube! With a background in PR and marketing, Janika has been telling stories for decades. The birth of her second child was both traumatic, and transformative - forcing her and her husband to reassess everything, and choose a different kind of life. She now uses this experience to help others harness the power of their own stories as a catalyst for positive change. I hope you're as inspired by Janika's story as I was, and use it as a starting point to start asking yourselves the right questions about the life you want for yourself and your family! If you missed Season 2 Episode 3 with Dr. Shefali - or even if you just listened to it and forgot what we discussed, here's an AMAZING little snippet that has really changed the way I think about how I parent. The idea that our children are born full of joy and wonder, already whole and complete is something we inherently know to be true...so why do we try so hard to improve them? Is it more about US? Eek! A joy, a depression, a meanness, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. Welcome and entertain them all! Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture, still, treat each guest honorably. He may be clearing you out for some new delight. Today's chat with Dr Harvey Karp touches on so many important topics - perhaps most importantly the unique challenges we face as parents in 2022. There are also some fantastic tips for dealing with toddler meltdowns, which will no doubt come in handy for me soon. I loved Dr Karp's refreshing, relaxed and honest approach, and to be honest so much of what he said made me feel so much better about myself as a parent and the journey I'm on. "Deciding, based on an awful diagnoses, whether to continue with a pregnancy and bring a baby into the world to suffer, or not to continue with your pregnancy doesn't feel like a choice, It feels like the worst decision you will ever have to make." At a routine scan during her first pregnancy, Meagan and her partner experienced what we all fear most in that moment. All was not well, and they would need to come back to see a doctor. What transpired over coming days and weeks was the reality that their baby daughter Violet had serious health problems and would not live long. They were then faced with a decision that no parent should ever have to make, and one they wished they never had to. Meagan wrote her and Violet's story in her book 'Still a Mum'. It moved me immensely and I'm so grateful that she shared her story with me in this podcast. While at times this is an emotional listen - it's also a story that's full of hope and joy as Meagan lovingly remembers her daughter, and lives in a way that ensures her baby girl is never forgotten. After twelve amazing interviews with twelve amazing mamas, I thought I'd reflect on some of my favourite moments, stories and bits of advice so far. Radio presenter Mitch Churi joins me this week for lots of LOLS and lots of heart. From awkward interviews with famous popstars on Hamilton Island, to accidentally getting outed by a waiter...it's all in here! We may have gone head to head in the radio ratings, but this episode is proof that when the universe wants you to be friends with someone...it'll happen. ENJOY! With a community of over 100 thousand followers, this 'real mamma' has been entertaining and educating me on the 'gram for years. It was a pleasure to sit down with Adele Barbaro and hear about her journey from falling in love on a Contiki tour, to getting married, navigating a career with kids and ultimately launching her own business with two little ones in tow. As Australia opens up again after nearly two years of uncertainty and intermittent lockdowns, clinical psychologist and all around legend Dr Julie Crabtree joins the show this week to help me answer questions like ‘how do we feel safe again in the world?' and ‘how do we cultivate hope after all of this disappointment and fear?'. I hope you're as inspired by this conversation as I was, and I hope you walk away armed with some practical tools to get back into a life full of wonder. After 15 years in Hollywood with starring roles in The Young and the Restless, Hannah Montana and Pretty Little Liars, Tammin Sursok has returned to Australia with her young family to work on local projects, and give her daughters a taste of relaxed Aussie life. In this episode you'll hear about her experiences in Hollywood (spoiler alert: it's not as glamorous as you think), nearly losing her husband to COVID, and the struggles with self image that she worked through in order to become the strong, feisty and focused woman she is now, 20 years after we fell in love with her in Summer Bay. Real name Polly Harding – this superstar of kiwi radio crossed the ditch in 2018 to take on Melbourne breakfast radio as the ‘PJ' half of KIIS 101.1's brekky show - Jase and PJ. A lot has happened since then - and in this episode we share our experiences of breaking into the industry, finding on air partners we genuinely connected with, falling in love, and ultimately choosing to walk away from the gig…something we both strangely did within months of eachother. At its heart - this chat really is about dreaming up and then creating the life you want - and the decisions we have to make (some easy, some hard) to get there. Enjoy! Superstar ‘Sneaky Sound System' front woman Connie Mitchell brings lights, glitter and good times wherever she goes. In this episode Connie shares some hilarious stories from life on the road, performing in hot pants while 9 months pregnant in Europe, and a particularly insane birth story which involves her husband being on stage in Mykonos when she went into labour…and somehow making it home to Sydney just in time to meet his son. Connie has had to work hard to build a life that works for her and her family, and has done so with her signature wild and wonderful-ness. Enjoy! She's not a regular Mom, she's a COOL MOM (according to me)! Singer, songwriter, DJ, producer and mama of two Kristy Lee Peters (better known as KLP) joins me this week for one of my favourite chats so far. There aren't that many young mamas in the local music scene, and certainly not many hitting the decks to a crowd of thousands while 9 months pregnant...so she really had to create her own path. This chat will inspire you to model a life that works for you, and stay true to your own needs in the process! Well this was fun! In this week's episode I go one on one with...my husband! You'll hear how we met, how we conceived (eek), and Adrian opens up about his fears and doubts around fatherhood. Also included is some audio from the operating theatre the moment we met our son. Dare you not to cry. This episode is brought to you by mates at the memo - feel good, expect joy! Jamila Rizvi is an author, CEO, gender equality activist, public speaker and podcast host. But above all else – she is a mother. One who faced an incredibly tough battle with a brain tumour very early on in her own journey of motherhood. In this episode Jam speaks with unfiltered honesty about the doubts she had about motherhood, the tough early days, dealing with her diagnosis while parenting a young child, and ultimately discovering that despite all her achievements – all would pale in comparison to her experience of mothering her son, Rafi. If you've ever wondered about your own life beyond motherhood, have questioned your abilities as a parent, or had a ‘scream into the pillow in secret frustration' moment, then this episode is the dose of reality you need to remind yourself that when it comes to parenthood – you're never alone. Senator Larissa Waters is pretty badass...and not just because she's dedicated her life to protecting our most precious resource - the environment. Not many women leave a successful career in law to enter the unforgiving world of politics - especially not with a young child. Larissa made headlines around the world for doing something that new mums find themselves doing multiple times a day. Breastfeeding. The only difference? I do it on the couch...she did it in parliament...while putting forward a motion. Like I said. Badass. In this episode Larissa talks with candour and humility about raising her own girls in a landscape that's traditionally not been very forgiving for mothers (or women, really). May we all be inspired by Larissa's determination to follow her passion and make motherhood work alongside it. Enjoy! Double the mum, DOUBLE THE FUN! Lots of laughter in today's episode with former AFLW superstar Moana Hope and her wife Isabella Carlstrom. These gals share their wonderful journey to motherhood which included both IUI and IVF which ultimately produced gorgeous baby Svea. While Mo and Belle's childhoods couldn't have looked more different (Moana is one of FOURTEEN siblings) these two have built an incredible life and family for themselves on their own terms. I hope you're inspired by these two powerhouse human beings - taking on life with humour, warmth and bloody hard work. Big love to our sponsor, modibodi. You may know her as a gladiator, a ninja, a total badass with a sixth dan black belt – but this episode proves that fitness entrepreneur Tiff Hall is even stronger than you thought. But that strength has been born out of lots of pain, and some tough lessons learned. Tiff's honesty in this chat brought me to tears – and is proof that whether you're in the public eye or not, motherhood is tough. Womanhood is tough. Being a business owner is tough. Doing it all at once on your own? Impossible. Thankyou Tiff for being brave and vulnerable about your journey back to health and happiness. Today's guest is New York Times bestselling author of eight novels including Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, Liane Moriarty! As the oldest of six children, in a household where her mother fostered dozens more, Liane always knew she wanted to be a Mum. In this chat she lifts the lid on her desire to have kids, and how it eventually happened during a time in her life when her career was absolutely soaring. From the emotional moment she told her Mum she'd given birth, to her first trip away from the kids (they flew her business class so she quickly adjusted….), to her strong beliefs around better access to childcare for women who want to return to work, in this episode you'll get to know your favourite author more intimately than ever before. Meet my new favourite human, Miranda Kerr. In this episode, she generously opens up about her own relationship with her Mum, and how she parents her three boys while taking care of her ‘daughter', international skincare brand KORA Organics. From breastfeeding during finance calls, to bravely expanding her business and her family at the same time, Miranda's passion, guts and heart shines through in this beautiful chat. Not every pregnant woman walks the catwalk for Balenciaga, or fronts the cover of VOGUE, and Miranda takes us behind the scenes of this crazy life with grace and humour.
