Ep #275: Why I Didn't Hire Them (Even If the Interview Went Great) Have you ever walked out of an interview thinking, “That went amazing!”...only to never hear back? Or maybe you were this close to landing a role and couldn’t figure out why it didn’t work out? Well, I recently spent several days reviewing 30+ applications and interviewing candidates for a contract role on Team Badass—and what I saw confirmed a lot of what I’ve been coaching you to do all along. Some people absolutely stood out. Others missed the mark entirely. So in this episode, I’m sharing what worked, what didn’t, and how the strongest applicants presented themselves in a way that felt clear, aligned, and easy to say yes to. You’ll hear the real reasons certain people moved forward—and why others didn’t—even when we had amazing conversations. I’ll also share what surprised me, what turned me off instantly, and how the follow-up made a bigger difference than most people realize. Ep #274: The Career Reinvention Blueprint with Sarah Kim Ever feel like your expertise is boxing you in? Like you've built a reputation around a certain skill set… but now it’s starting to feel like it’s placing a limit on where you can go in your career? Maybe you're the kind of leader who refuses to stay in one lane. Or maybe you want to shake things up - but you're not sure how to do it without leaving your current organization behind. If that’s you, this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer is a must-listen. I sat down with Sarah Kim, Chief Customer Success Officer at Intuit, who’s spent nearly 20 years growing her career within the same company - without getting stuck in one identity. She's held leadership roles in marketing, data and analytics, operations, and now customer success. And she did it by reinventing herself, leaning into her strengths, and asking for what she wanted. In this conversation, Sarah and I unpack how she navigated a nonlinear path to the executive suite, the power of self-advocacy to get what you want (especially when you’re not the “obvious” choice), and why your current job title doesn’t have to limit where you go next. Ep #273: Equal Pay Day 2025: How Powerful Women Negotiate Their Pay (And Win) You’re doing incredible work. You’re hitting it out of the park. Or maybe you’ve been telling yourself that the money doesn’t matter that much … as long as you’re not traveling all the time, or working exhausting hours, or drowning in stress. But deep down, you know better. You do care about the money. And you know you deserve it. In honor of Equal Pay Day 2025, I’m cutting through the noise and giving you two things to help you get the pay you already deserve: 1. Ep #272: The One Powerful Question That Will Fast-Track Your Career Growth Have you ever caught yourself saying we’ll see when it comes to your career? We’ll see if I get the raise I requested. We’ll see if they call me back after that interview. We’ll see if I get promoted at my next performance review. It sounds harmless, but let’s be real: When you say we’ll see , you’re bracing for disappointment before it even happens. You’re keeping yourself from getting too excited, too invested - because then maybe, just maybe, it won’t hurt as much if things don’t go your way. The truth is, playing it safe doesn’t protect you from failure. It only keeps you from really going after what you want. But what if one simple question could change all of that? A question that, when asked, could shift your entire mindset - helping you take control, step up, and do what it takes to get the recognition, promotion, and pay you already deserve. In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer , I’m introducing you to the most powerful question you can ask yourself in your career. Ep #271: Lift as You Rise: Simple Actions to Help Us All Advance Together Women leaders like you don’t need to be told to lift others up. You’re already doing it. You support, advocate for, and maybe already mentor other women - not because someone told you to, but because it’s part of who you are. So while supporting women is a no-brainer, the how of doing it as effectively as possible - and doing it without burning yourself out - might be less clear. How do you make sure your mentorship truly moves the needle? How do you balance supporting others while continuing to advance your own career? And how do you open doors for other women in ways that create lasting change? In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’ll show you how. Ep #270: Bigger Than You with Kelly Roach Having a team should make your job easier, not harder. So why does it sometimes feel like a lot more work? Your to-do list just gets longer, your inbox is overflowing, and suddenly, instead of doing everything yourself, you’re also responsible for other people’s work, too. Here’s what you need to know: The best leaders don’t manage their teams - they mentor them . And that is exactly what today’s guest, Kelly Roach, has mastered. Kelly is a former Fortune 500 executive turned 8-figure business owner who built and led high-performing teams before leaving the corporate world and scaling multiple companies of her own. She’s also a Top 20 podcast host, a former NFL cheerleader (yes, really!) and the author of several multi-international best-selling books, including an incredible book about building unstoppable teams: Bigger Than You . In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer , Kelly is breaking down how you can go from being a manager to a mentor - so your team isn’t just waiting for directions, they’re taking ownership, making decisions, and leading in their own right. Ep #269: Why 'Middle Management Mentality' Is Keeping You Stuck in Your Career You’re great at your job. You take ownership, hit your goals, and know you’re capable of more. So why does it feel like you’re spinning your wheels in middle management while other people seem to move up faster? Here’s why: The way you think about your role might be keeping you stuck. I call it middle management mentality , and it happens when you unknowingly operate like a middle manager - even when you’re more than ready for a higher-level leadership role. It sounds like: “I’ll just wait for my boss to tell me what to do,” or “If I keep working hard, my results will speak for themselves.” This mindset makes total sense. It’s what got you promoted in the past. But the skills that made you successful in middle management are NOT the same skills that will get you into the executive suite. To get there, you have to start thinking and leading differently now . In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer , I’ll show you how middle management mentality is keeping you in career limbo, how to break free from it, and what to do instead so you can step into your next-level leadership role - without waiting for permission. Ep #268: Stuck in Middle Management Hell? Here’s How to Escape FAST Let’s be honest: Middle management is kind of the worst, right? You’re constantly caught in the middle - answering to leaders who don’t always value your input while trying to motivate a team that doesn’t always listen. You have some authority but not enough to make real change (the changes you really want to make). You’re expected to own your work but don’t always get recognized for it. And the worst part? It can feel like this is just how things are. But let me tell you something: this does not have to be your reality. Too many brilliant, hardworking women settle for middle management purgatory because they assume the only way out is to switch jobs, get lucky, or put in even more hours. But that’s not the path to true leadership. You actually don’t need to do more work to get yourself promoted to higher levels of leadership - you just need to position yourself differently. In today’s episode, I’m breaking down how to shift from feeling stuck in middle management to becoming a leader who is seen, heard, and valued. I’ll share real stories of women who landed the titles, pay, and recognition they deserved - not by working harder, but by using a simple strategy that made all the difference. Ep #267: The Biggest Career Risk You’re Taking (Without Even Knowing It!) Are you taking the wrong kind of risk at work - or worse, avoiding risk altogether? Every week of this new year has felt a little overwhelming, exhausting, and - let’s be real - mind-numbing. The world feels unpredictable, layoffs are happening left and right, and the temptation to keep your head down and just survive is strong. But here’s the thing: staying invisible is actually the biggest risk of all. I see it all the time. Women leaders - brilliant, hardworking, and beyond qualified - convincing themselves that now is not the time to speak up, to stand out, or to ask for more. But that mindset? That’s a disempowered observer mindset. And it’s keeping you stuck. On today’s episode of Women Changing Leadership, I’m breaking down exactly how to take more strategic risks in your career - especially in times of chaos and uncertainty. You’ll learn the difference between empowered risks that position you for influence and opportunities, and reckless risks that might actually be holding you back. Plus, I’ll show you the single most important strategy to ensure you’re seen as a leader - without having to fight tooth and nail for recognition. Ep #266: How to Be Seen and Heard as a Badass Leader with Summa Simmons Corporate badasses, this episode is extra special. Not only am I kicking off Black History Month by celebrating an incredible woman leader, but I also get to shine a spotlight on one of my clients— the phenomenal Summa Simmons. Summa is the Associate Vice President of Treasury at Victoria’s Secret & Co., where she makes sure the company’s financial strategies align with its growth and success. But here’s what I love most about her: She didn’t just climb the corporate ladder—she built her own leadership brand, put herself out there, and created opportunities where there weren’t any before. And now? She’s stepping fully into her voice, owning her impact, and helping other women do the same. On this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, Summa is breaking down the three pillars of success that transformed her career, the mindset shifts that helped her go from behind the scenes to thought leader, and why branding yourself as a leader isn’t about demanding more—it’s about showing up like someone people already assume is getting promoted. Ep #260: The Biggest Client Trends of 2024 That Led to Massive Success What separates corporate women leaders who thrived in 2024 from those who stayed stuck? Let’s face it—2024 kind of sucked. Between layoffs, reorgs, stalled promotions, and bonuses that never materialized, many corporate women leaders felt like their careers were at a standstill. But… many of my clients had massive success in 2024. And not because they were immune from the chaos and BS everyone else was experiencing this year. It was because of what I call "unexpected gifts"—those things that happen in your career that make you feel like you're taking two steps backward in your professional development, but end up helping you unlock a whole new level of leadership. Ep #259: Are You Saying ‘Yes’ and ‘No’ to the Wrong Opportunities in Your Career? Are you accidentally stalling your career by saying ‘yes’ and ‘no’ to the wrong things? So many of the women I speak with are quick to say ‘yes’ to things that don’t actually move the needle in their careers: Yes to putting out fires, to attending unnecessary meetings, to waiting patiently for that elusive promotion. And on the flip side, those very same women are almost reflexively saying ‘no’ to the very things that could transform their careers. No to exploring a new role because it might not be the “perfect” fit. No to that recruiter’s outreach because the timing doesn’t feel ideal. No to speaking engagements because you’re “not ready.” Here’s the truth: every yes and no you give shapes your career. And sometimes, your default responses might be holding you back. On this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’ll show you how to flip the script so you can confidently say ‘no’ to the things that don’t truly matter at work—and ‘yes’ to the career opportunities that will move the needle for your growth. Ep #258: Your Year-End Career Opportunities Hiding in Plain Sight The end of the year is pure chaos—but it’s also bursting with opportunities. If you’re like many corporate badasses I coach, your calendar is jammed with deadlines, performance reviews, and Q4 goals. It’s exhausting, and the idea of focusing on anything beyond just crossing the finish line might feel impossible. But here’s the thing: Amid all that chaos lies incredible career opportunities, just waiting for you to notice them. Opportunities like: Roles other people aren’t applying for, deep conversations with leadership that others aren’t having, and those unexpected, last-minute openings and projects that could catapult you into a new role. That’s why I recorded this episode—to help you lift your head above the noise, shift your focus, and not only get a head start on 2025 but actually have opportunities lined up before the year even ends. Ep #253: The First, the Few, the Only with Deepa Purushothaman In the corporate world, many Women of Color find themselves as “the first, the few, the only” on their teams, in their departments, or even in their entire companies. As a result, they’re often expected to adapt, contort, and conform themselves to fit into a mold that doesn’t reflect who they truly are, just to succeed. But what would it look like to create a corporate world where the talents and achievements of Women of Color are celebrated—not questioned, diminished, or undermined? And where Women of Color aren’t pressured to change who they are to succeed, but are empowered to lead with their unique strengths and on their own terms? This is the world my guest, Deepa Purushothaman, is working to create. As a former senior partner at Deloitte and the author of The First, the Few, the Only: How Women of Color Can Redefine Power in Corporate America, Deepa believes we have the power to reshape corporate culture—if we work together to make it happen. In this episode of Women Changing Leadership, Deepa and I discuss what a redefinition of leadership would look like – one that challenges outdated norms, fosters true inclusivity, and builds strong communities of support. Maybe you’ve been warned that you’re talking about your professional development too often and that you need to “sit tight” and wait your turn. But as you've heard me say before: A promotion is not a reward for your hard work. And going back to your desk, putting your head down, and working really hard isn’t going to help you get to that next level. So how can you continue to advocate for your promotion without pushing too hard and pissing people off? You’re going to do this: Stop talking about your promotion and start talking about your work . In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’ll show you how to shift the conversation from just pushing for a promotion to strategically demonstrating your impact and growth as a leader. I’ll also break down exactly why so many women leaders receive this “sit tight” feedback and provide practical solutions to stay on track with your career goals. Ep #250: How to Build Allies at Work Without Pissing People Off The #1 best thing you can do for your career? Build allies. Lots of them. Why? Because they can open doors and create opportunities that would take you ten times longer to reach on your own. But here’s the catch: “Ally” can feel like a four-letter word in the corporate world, right? If you’ve tried to build allies in the past and people were put off by it, that sucks. But here’s the truth: Building allies is completely normal. Your leadership team probably has them too—they just don’t call them that. So, if you've ever gotten pushback when trying to build allies... or you’ve built allies but don’t know how to leverage them for the promotion you deserve…This episode is for you. Ep #249: Why The All-Or-Nothing Approach is Costing You Job Opportunities Are you stuck in the "all or nothing" trap with your career? That cycle where you're either scrambling, stressed out, and desperate to land a job after being laid off…or you're happy in a job you enjoy, letting months—or even years—go by without putting any effort into attracting new opportunities and letting your resume, LinkedIn profile, and network become neglected and outdated in the process. This cycle is so harmful because it creates massive amounts of unnecessary stress and anxiety when you do need a job. The good news? That stress is completely avoidable. In this episode of Women Changing Leadership, I’m introducing you to a third way. A process that allows you to attract new opportunities in a relaxed way that yields much better results. And the best part? When you follow this path, you'll show up to interviews with more confidence , curiosity , and boldness , because you'll be fully prepared and positioned for whatever comes your way. It all starts with my ‘ Always Be Interviewing ’ approach. In this episode, I’ll show you how to shift into this ‘Always Be Interviewing’ mindset, stay prepared, and build the professional relationships that will keep opportunities coming your way year-round—without the burnout or desperation. Ep #248: Thinking at the Speed of Bias with Sara Taylor Have you ever wondered how much of your decision-making as a leader is being driven by forces you’re not even aware of? As a woman leader, you’re all too familiar with bias in the workplace. You’ve encountered it, you’ve worked hard to try to overcome it, and you’ve made conscious choices to intervene and try to create a more equitable workplace for all. But here’s the shocking truth: Despite our best intentions, only about 2% of individuals truly understand bias well enough to create lasting, positive change. As my guest, Sara Taylor, put it during our interview: “If so many of us have that positive intent… why aren’t we making progress?” Sara is the President and Founder of deepSEE Consulting and the author of Thinking At The Speed Of Bias: How To Shift Our Unconscious Filters . And in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, Sara and I dive into the unconscious mind and how it shapes our biases in ways even we—educated, inclusive women leaders—don’t realize. Ep #247: 4 Unexpected Ways My Coaching Transforms Your Leadership Growth Sometimes my clients come to me, confused, because they tried something I taught them and didn’t get the result they expected. But what if the result they “thought” they were going for wasn’t really the goal? What if it's actually part of my bigger plan for them? Here’s the thing: When I guide you to take action in your career, the result you’re aiming for might not be the one I’m targeting. Whether it’s in my book, this podcast, or inside my coaching programs, sometimes the strategies I teach aren’t meant to give you that immediate win. Ep #246: Should You Go For a Higher Title Or "Settle" For a Lateral Move? Are you stuck choosing between going for that shiny new title or “settling” for a lateral move? This is a question I hear from my clients all the time—and for good reason. On one hand, your title matters . And landing the high-level title you deserve matters, too. It’s how you elevate your resume and be recognized for the corporate badass leader you are becoming. But on the other hand, sometimes being too rigid about titles can stifle your career. A lateral move might actually lead to bigger, better opportunities at better-fit organizations where you can actually get promoted faster . So, how do you decide? In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’ll help you weigh the pros and cons of both options. We’ll talk through real-life examples, personal stories, and the strategic questions you should ask yourself to make the best decision for your career. Ep #237: 3 Reasons Why Emphasizing Your Commitment To Growth Won’t Get You Promoted There is a popular career advancement technique that is holding a lot of women back from getting the promotions they deserve. And I know many women are unfortunately still falling into this trap because three women in the past week alone have told me they’ve been using this technique in their recent job interviews. This technique seems like a golden ticket…but it’s not. That technique is: Using your commitment to personal growth as a selling point for why you should be promoted or hired. Your personal growth is crucial for your self-motivation and resilience. It helps you do hard things and push past your comfort zone. But here's the kicker: Hiring managers and bosses don’t value your personal growth the same way you do. And they also don’t see it as a reason to promote or hire you, either. Ep #220: My New Definition of Selfishness and How to Use It to Get Promoted The women inside my programs are incredibly empathetic, compassionate leaders who are lifting others up and making a huge impact at their organizations. But in order to do that, they first had to become incredibly selfish. And I’m not talking about the run-of-the-mill selfishness that leads to so many a-holes being in executive leadership. I’m talking about the kind of selfishness that will allow you to do things like: Leave work every day at 4pm to pick up your kids; go on a 5-week sabbatical and still get promoted when you return; and bring more empathy, diversity, inclusion and compassion to the leadership table and completely change how business is run in the process. This is my new definition of selfishness. And on this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’m going to show you how you can use it to strive for greatness in your own way, on your own terms, and while carving your own path to the executive suite. Ep #219: The Problem with Corporate VIPs and How to Become an MVP Instead Are you on the path to becoming an MVP or a VIP at your organization? The difference may seem small, but focusing on the wrong path can create huge problems in your career. VIPs are the high-level leaders you may be looking up to at your organization right now. They have power and influence and they’re often respected and even revered. But here’s the problem: As you advance to higher levels of leadership...you may come to realize that you don’t actually like them. And when this happens – when you realize many of the VIPs you admired are actually total a-holes who don’t stand for anything as a leader – this can be incredibly demotivating for you and your career. But in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’m going to help you bypass this problem completely by showing you another path. I’ll show you how focusing on being an MVP – NOT a VIP – will help you achieve everything you admire about VIPs (the title, pay, recognition, and voice) while also stepping into your authentic power and having a major impact as a leader. Ep #218: How Working Less Will Help You Get Promoted More You know that person at work who has a seat at the table, gets paid well, has lots and lots of influence, and continues to get promotion after promotion…but they also seem to put in less hours, deliver less projects, and maybe even care less about the organization than you do? You may be annoyed with this person, but I actually want you to follow their lead. At the executive level, you’re not getting paid by how many hours your butt is in your seat. You’re getting paid for your ideas, your visionary leadership, your ability to make hard decisions, your ability to problem solve at a higher level and more. And the best way to have the time and mental bandwidth to do all of the above and more is to start doing less at work. So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership, I’m going to walk you through the advanced executive skills I have been teaching my clients so they can work less while being rewarded more than ever before. Ep #215: The Gender Pay Gap and Why It's Time for a New Conversation The current discourse around the gender pay gap and how we’re going to fix it is in desperate need of an overhaul. Telling women to create boundaries, have a better work-life balance, and delegate their work is actually pretty useless unless we’re also giving women a practical, step-by-step guide for what it’s really going to take to advance themselves to higher levels of leadership. Here’s the thing: The corporate badasses I work with aren’t waiting for their bosses, their organizations, or society at large to change. They’re getting themselves promoted to positions of power and influence so they can create that change. Ep #214: Become Your Boss's Favorite on Your Terms If you want to be your boss’s successor, it can feel super demotivating when they have a favorite – and it isn’t you . On the other hand, it can also feel icky and super inauthentic to become your boss’s ‘yes’ person in the hopes of winning their favor and getting the promotion you want. But there’s a middle way. You can become your boss’s favorite on your terms, while also: building trust that you can lead at a higher level by including your boss in conversations the right way; proactively creating alignment with the entire executive team so you understand what really matters to your organization; and increasing your political savvy so you can disagree with your boss and still be heard . Ep #207: Management Skills Made Easy with Corina Walsh One of my favorite things about the corporate badasses I work with is their commitment to making their organizations a better , kinder , and more equitable place. So it doesn’t surprise me that, after getting promoted to higher and higher levels of leadership, they come to me with questions like: How can I be a better role model for my team ? How can I coach the leaders I manage to become better leaders for their teams? What tools and strategies can I use to create a great workplace environment and help our employees feel more valued and engaged? Because we don’t get promoted to do everything the same way . We want to be a catalyst for change. And the easiest way to begin to do that is to be a catalyst for change with our teams . Ep #191: Career Magic, Part 3: Curiosity If you ask any of the women I work with: ‘ What got you to the level of success you're at today? ’ The main thread running through all their answers would be: Curiosity . Ep #187: Being Unapologetically Visible with Bibigi Haile If being visible at work or online feels scary to you – I get it. Openly sharing your ideas with your boss, the executive team, or even on your LinkedIn profile can feel like you’re deliberately putting yourself in the crosshairs of people who want to ‘ put you in your place .’ It can even cause you to be sent to the Human Resources office like a 6th grader. So what's a corporate badass to do? If you’re like most corporate women leaders, you wait for the perfect time to be visible. Which means waiting for a higher-level role or waiting to finally perfect your LinkedIn profile. But this isn’t going to help with your visibility. It’s just going to help you lean into your perfectionism and imposter syndrome so you can keep playing small. I want to show you a better way. Which is why I can’t wait to introduce you to Bibigi Haile! Bibigi gives women the license to be Unapologetically Visible, make bold moves, and stop apologizing for what they want from their professional lives. Ep #185: Building Allies at Work NEVER Gets Easier (and That's a Good Thing) Most of the steps inside my executive promotion process will literally transform who you are as a person. You learn the steps I teach, you implement them for a while, and within a short period of time, you are effortlessly thinking, communicating, and operating at an entirely different level of leadership. But there is one step in particular that you can never just set and forget. Over the course of your career, you are going to have to revisit this process over and over (and over) again. And that step is: Building allies . Building allies is the only part of my promotion process that never gets easier – which is also the exact reason why it works so well. Ep #184: How to Deal with a Less-Obvious Toxic Boss When we talk about toxic bosses, we often imagine someone who is aggressive, dismissive, childish, or openly rude. But the toxic bosses I’m talking about in this episode are way more insidious and absolutely deadly when it comes to your career. They’re likely sliding under your radar because they’re not overt assholes and they probably aren’t being awful to you. They may even be masking their toxic behavior by being overly nice to you. These less-obvious toxic bosses are so dangerous because they’re manipulative and codependent – and they may be blocking you from reaching your next level of leadership and you don’t even realize it. So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’ll show you the corporate badass way of recognizing and dealing with these terrible bosses so you can get unstuck in your career. Ep #183: Eradicating the BS that Plagues the Corporate Workplace with Erin Hatzikostas There is a lot of BS lurking around every single corner of your workplace. BS like: thinking you need to hustle yourself into an early grave or treating the executive team like they’re high up on a golden throne instead of seeing them as peers you can start building relationships with. The truth is, you have everything you need right now to ditch alllll this workplace BS and build a deeply fulfilling career you love – and it all starts with showing up as the badass, authentic leader you already are. To help you make this happen, I’ve asked one of the most authentic leaders I know to join me on this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer. Ep #181: The Feminine Way to Become a Corporate Athlete A lot of the concepts and action items we traditionally associate with becoming a corporate athlete are rooted in masculine ideals around leadership and high-performance. Many of the male leaders I’ve spoken with over the years describe their secrets to success as doing more . More meetings, more work, more highly productive morning routines. But there is a much more feminine approach to becoming a corporate athlete that is not only more effective, but also leads to less burnout, more career opportunities, and you’re going to feel inspired to commit to it every single day. In this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’m breaking down the three things badass women leaders do differently so they can find major success at the executive level. Ep #180: Break the Burnout Cycle and Rediscover Your Greatness with Christy Rutherford I will never teach you how to hustle your way to the executive suite. Look at it this way: If you focus solely on getting your next promotion – without taking care of yourself in all aspects of your life – you are going to arrive at the leadership table already burnt out and unable to make the impact you always dreamed of making. This is NOT my vision for you and your career. Which is exactly why I’m so excited to have Christy Rutherford on this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer. Christy was the 13th African American woman to achieve the rank of Commander in the U.S. Coast Guard and today she works as an executive coach who helps women get promoted using office politics and self-care . Ep #178: My Leadership Mission to Give Agency to All Women in Corporate The vast majority of corporate women don’t have any agency at work because the corporate structure was literally set up to prevent us from having it. So if you feel like a corporate badass, yet you’re waiting for your next performance review to get promoted, you don’t have enough agency. Or if you’re worried to death about being laid off – or you fall into a deep despair when you are – you don’t have enough agency. A lack of agency is at the root of so much of the pain and suffering you may be experiencing in your career right now. But helping you reclaim your agency so you can find your voice and create a life and career that truly belongs to YOU is at the heart of every single thing I teach. Ep #176: Use Your 3Xed Vision to Make Your Next Promotion Inevitable Want to reach amazing new heights in your career? Then you need to own the leadership path you want to be on. One of the most powerful processes I teach my corporate badasses inside of Executive Ahead of Time is figuring out their 3xed Vision. Which means: Figuring out where you want to be in your career, not one promotion from now, but three promotions from now. Because, when you realize that your next promotion is actually just the beginning of everything you want to accomplish in your career – it’s going to be so much easier to reach your next level of leadership. So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’m going to give you the tools you need to not only tap into your 3xed Vision, but to begin to turn that vision into reality . But I’ve been perfecting the process of building executive presence for YEARS. Before becoming an executive coach and keynote speaker, Kim was: An Air Force colonel; the Director of the Center for Character and Leadership Development at the Air Force Academy; AND she was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for Heroism after successfully recovering her battle-damaged airplane during a mission in Baghdad. Ep #173: How to Use Your Anger to Transform the Leadership Table Showing up like a corporate badass can be super hard when you’re dealing with a ton of turmoil, frustration, and quite frankly, anger over what’s happening at your organization or the world as a whole. And while it’s hard to deal with the layoffs and reorgs and fear happening in the world right now, it’s also firing something up inside of me and driving me to action , to really get up on my soapbox and say something. You might be feeling that pull as well. That pull of: “I’ve had enough!” So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’m going to share how I have been coaching my clients to advance their careers by leaning into that anger – while ALSO not letting it control them. Ep #172: Increase Your Curiosity Index to Get Next-Level Career Results The Curiosity Index refers to the amount of curiosity you bring to your career. Meaning: Curiosity in your 1:1’s with your boss, curiosity during meetings with the executive team, and curiosity about alllllll the opportunities available to you right now . Ep #171: The Corporate Badass Way to Recognizing and Overcoming Bias at Work Very early on in my executive coaching career, I began doing trainings around unconscious bias. I taught my students how to begin to recognize and notice these biases in themselves so they could counteract their biases by choosing to do something different . And that makes total sense when you are the biased person. But what do you do when you are on the receiving end of that bias? Well, you get frustrated or shut down. Or you could also choose to do something different . (Probably way more than 40 hours a week, if we’re being honest.) Ep #160: The Difference Between Hard Work and Working Hard Welcome to our first episode of 2023! As you set your big, exciting goals for the new year, I want you to keep this in mind: In 2023, you need to stop working hard , and start leaning into hard work . Yes, there's a difference. Most of the women I work with have a strong desire to avoid burnout, to avoid stress, to not get promoted into a role that’s going to force them to have no other priorities in their lives. And I get it. I started my business to be happy, not miserable. But there’s a problem that can sometimes arise from this mindset: We can sometimes focus so much on NOT burning out, that we fail to set (and reach) those big, exciting goals. So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’ll reveal the difference between hard work and working hard so you can do the important things that will set you up for major success this year (while avoiding the things that suck up all your time and energy and give you nothing in return). Ep #154: Grow Your Career in 2023 by Focusing on Contentment For me, 2022 was a year of contentment . Not contentment as in: No longer striving for something more (which is what I used to believe contentment was). But contentment as in: Being incredibly happy with where I am and growing and achieving so much more from a place of desire instead of need . And when I look back over the year my clients inside of Executive Ahead of Time and The Leadership Table have had, I see this same kind of contentment. The work that we are doing made their next promotions inevitable . And so getting promoted wasn’t a feeling of need , but a feeling of…’ of course. ’ Because when you know in your bones that you are great, that you have what it takes to get promoted to those executive levels, and when you know that your next promotion is just the beginning of the impact you are here to make in the world, everything comes together – and it feels so, so good . So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I am sharing the different things my clients and I did in 2022 that allowed us to access this level of contentment so you can reach a whole new level of contentment and success in 2023. Ep #152: My Market Neutral Approach to Advancing Your Career The highs and lows of the market are inevitable . But those highs and lows having the power to totally derail your career are not . That’s why market neutrality is at the core of everything I teach to the corporate badass women I work with. Meaning: your career won’t be impacted by the highs and lows of the market. When you follow the principles of market neutrality, you can continue to advance your career, no matter what is happening in the economy. AND you can let go of all the stress and uncertainty because you’ll know you have options AND the ability to always figure things out. So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I am going to show you exactly how YOU can achieve market neutrality by always deliberately managing your career. Ep #151: Stop Using Diversity as a Selling Point and Start Being Diverse Instead I have always been different. As a child, I stood out from other people at my school. I had bright red hair, freckles over my entire body, and I rocked a set of braces all through high school. And I was also always louder, more emotional, more dramatic, more creative, and more driven than most of the people around me. My loving and supportive family had a word for what I was: Different . Very different, actually. And so I prided myself in my difference. And I bet you lead with your difference in your career too. You may have even spotlighted your difference when going for new job opportunities. But there’s a problem with this approach. You’re so busy emphasizing your difference, that you aren’t showing the leadership team all the incredible executive leadership traits that you have in common with them. So in this episode of Women Changing Leadership with Stacy Mayer, I’m going to show you why you need to stop using your diversity as a selling point when it comes to advocating for your promotion and to start being more diverse instead. Ep #146: How to Accelerate Your Executive Presence in Just 15-Minutes a Week Have you been told you need to work on your “ executive presence ”? I’ve spent most of my career avoiding this term because ‘ You need to work on your executive presence ’ often translates to ‘ You need to act more like the rest of the people in the room ’. (And spoiler alert: the rest of the people in the room are men.) But I’ve been reflecting on this word lately, and I’ve come to realize that I DO believe in executive presence…but not the way you've been taught about it. So in this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer, I am going to show you the real way to accelerate your executive presence using an easy-to-follow step-by-step process so you can finally get the opportunities, money, recognition, and title you deserve. There may still even be tears. But what if you could build an incredible kind of resilience that allowed you to experience these setbacks, dust yourself off, and then simply think: NEXT ! No more spiraling. Just a deep sense of knowing that you are a corporate badass who can figure. it. Out. Ep #142: How Working Remotely Actually Helps You Build Better Executive Relationships There’s a popular idea out there that it’s harder to collaborate, build key relationships, and get promoted when you work remotely. And I’m calling BS . Getting promoted to the executive suite has nothing to do with how much face time you put in around the water cooler. But it has everything to do with getting intentional about your career. Ep #133: My 30-60-90 Day Plan for Killing It In Your New Role The first 90 days in your new role is the perfect time to put your head down, check all the boxes on your to-do list, and really prove yourself, right? They nail the expectations for the role… And they also don’t waste any time building the foundation for their NEXT promotion. Ep #132: 5 Women's Leadership Tips You Can Use to Advance Your Career Right Now Earlier on in my career, I was a cookie cutter leadership coach for corporate women. And this experience of training women to be amazing leaders is the foundation for all of the work I do today. But…It has its downsides. I’ve seen first hand how the standard women’s leadership advice could help women get better at their jobs…but not actually help them advance to the executive suite. That’s why the work I’m doing on this podcast, in my book, and in my programs has grown beyond the standard women’s leadership advice. I call it: Women’s Leadership 2.0. But even though I am all about this next-level style of women’s leadership, I know there are some critical building blocks from Women’s Leadership 1.0 that you may still be missing. Ep #130: How Women are Redefining the Economy with Katrine Marçal There’s a belief in economics that self-interest is the thing that motivates economic activity. But what if that’s… wrong ? I know YOU want the title, the pay increase, and the recognition. And sure, that IS self-interest. And that’s great. But we both know that you want so much more than that. You want to land the promotion AND you want to be the corporate badass who brings more diversity to the leadership table. Because women like you aren't interested only in self-interest. You’re interested in being part of something so much bigger than that, too . As a world-renowned author and thought leader on women and innovation, Katrine Marçal, says in this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer: “When you add women to the story of economics and stir it around, the whole narrative changes .” In this episode, we get raw and real about how to bring more women into the conversation around money and economics. Ep #129: How Your Fear of Micromanaging is Stopping You from Leading like an Executive You are not micromanaging your team enough. Now before you say, “But Stacy you told me to get out of the weeds?!” Yes, that is true. BUT part of the reason you are in the weeds is because you are not micromanaging your team enough. Now hear me out. I know you cringe at the idea of being called a micromanager. But…it’s precisely because you’re so afraid of being seen as a micromanager that you aren’t acting like an executive leader. So I encourage you to start micromanaging a little more BUT in the RIGHT way. That’s why in this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer, I’m going to show you how you can become an amazing leader of your team by not micromanaging details, but micromanaging expectations instead. Ep #128: The REAL Reason Why You Need to Go for the Promotion If you’re getting lots of accolades, landing promotions, securing higher and higher pay raises, you may start to look around and wonder…what’s all this REALLY for? The truth is, a lot of women stop advancing in their careers once they hit the senior manager level. And it’s not because they don’t have what it takes to advance to upper levels of leadership. But it is because they don’t always like what they see. The women I work with want the title, the income, the influence, and the power, but they don’t want it to hoard for themselves. They want power with people, not over people. They want unlimited funds so they can pour their money into people and organizations that matter. And they want to use their influence to not just get themselves promoted, but to transform how their organization does business from the C-Suite out. So if you’ve ever wondered ‘what’s this all for?’, then you need to tune into this episode. In this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer, I’m diving into why your next promotion really does matter and I’m going to show you all the things you can reject as you make your way to the top. Ep #127: How to Paint a Vision that Makes Your Next Promotion INEVITABLE There is so much more to getting promoted than the ‘how’. The how is the nuts and bolts that gets you there. But your vision? Your vision gives you the inspiration and commitment you need to reach your big goals and uplift every area of your life in the process. And when you have clarity on your vision for your career AND you can clearly communicate that vision to the leadership team, your next promotion will become inevitable. So in this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer, I’m giving you some tips and major inspiration that will help you tap into your vision and values so you can show the executive team that you’re ready to lead at that next level. Ep #126: How to Embody Self-Awareness as a Leader with Jay Fields Jay Fields is an embodiment educator who has devoted her life to helping people manage their emotions more effectively so they can have their own backs at work and in life. And she does so in a way that is grounded, playful, empathetic, and intelligent. In this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer, Jay and I discuss how you can tap into a new level of power by embodying your self-awareness as a leader. We also discuss the #1 thing that got Jay to where she is in her career, why building your relational intelligence is as important as your drive to succeed, why focusing only on smarts and achievements causes so many corporate badasses to suffer, and more. Ep #125: How to Transition into Executive Leadership by Treating it like a New Career Path If you are trying to advance into executive leadership but you feel stuck, you need to do THIS: let go of your OLD career. The career you had as the subject matter expert with all the skills and responsibilities that went along with it. This is where we draw the line in the sand. The line between the technical career you had…and the incredible leader you are becoming. And becoming this leader takes a totally different skill set. That’s why one of the most critical shifts you can make right now is to start thinking of executive leadership as a brand new career path. This episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer is all about making that shift. I am going to show you why treating executive leadership as a brand new career path is going to help you commit to your career deeper than ever before AND how it will help you step into a higher-level executive position. Ep #124: How to Overcome the ‘Aggressive’ Label at Work Do you worry about receiving feedback that you’re too aggressive at work? This is a topic that came up on a panel I was presenting on recently, and the way the women in the audience fixated on this problem was a big red flag for me. Because, how are you going to raise your hand, speak up more, share your opinions, ask directly for that promotion or pay increase, and build relationships with the executive team when you’re constantly monitoring how “aggressive” you’re being at work? Nope. Not on my watch. That’s why I’m dedicating this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer to showing you a different path. One where you lean into the beautiful, powerful POSITIVE feedback you are already receiving right now, and one where you don’t let your fear of being seen as aggressive completely hijack your career. Ep #120: How Being ‘Irreplaceable’ is Sabotaging Your Career The fact that you’re irreplaceable in your role is ruining your chances of getting promoted. Look at it this way: When you are irreplaceable, it’s easier for your organization to hire someone NEW to fill the role you want than it is to promote you and find a replacement (or, let’s be real, three replacements) to take over the work you are doing right now. So what do you do instead? You start grooming your successor starting now AND you communicate this to the executive team so they know you have a plan. In this episode of Maximize Your Carer with Stacy Mayer, I’ll show you how to do both. Join us inside my group coaching intensive, Executive Ahead of Time .

Ep #119: 3 Promotion Strategies Your Boss Will NEVER Tell You Right now, your boss is probably giving you advice on how to manage your team better, hit your deliverables, and manage your time...but these aren’t the skills the leadership team is looking for when deciding whether or not to promote you to the executive suite. But that totally-against-the-grain work I love to do? That kind of advice sets you up to reach and flourish at the executive level (while still nailing the role you have now). So that’s why I’m dedicating this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer to laying out three promotion strategies that your boss is NEVER going to tell you. Ep #116: Why Titles Matter (And ALSO Why Titles Don't Matter At All) Titles DO matter when it comes to taking charge of your own career. But…they also DON’T matter, too. Because, yes, you don’t need a higher title to start having the impact you want to be making right now. But on the flipside… Your title can open doors for you. It can help you have a seat and a voice at the table, so you can be the change you want to see in your organization. And it can provide you with the bonuses and pay raises that you 100% deserve. So in this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer, I’m going to show you the Middle Way between titles being the ‘be-all and end-all’ of your career, and titles not being important at all. And finding this balance is going to help you reach your next level of leadership and have so much more success once you get there. Ep #74: Executive Relationships Part 3: Building Your Personal Board of Directors No, advocating for a promotion does not mean that you do not deserve it. I see so many corporate women leaders with this mindset, and they’re playing small as a result. They think that if they need to ask for a promotion, they must not be ready for it in the first place. But that’s not how it works. I’ve talked to countless C-Suite leaders about what it took to get to where they are now…and guess what? Exactly zero of them said they got to where they are by waiting around to be plucked out. Instead, all of them credit their success to their RELATIONSHIPS. So on this episode of Maximize Your Career with Stacy Mayer, I dive into how to build a personal board of directors who will help you land your next promotion.
