E63 - Spotify Has Cancelled Our Show - Yes, it is true! Podcasting has evolved quite a bit since its early days. As a format, it is increasingly becoming more visual and interactive, with more people around the world creating, listening, and engaging with the medium than ever before. And while the core vision of Spotify for Podcasters has remained — to make podcasting so brilliantly simple that anyone, anywhere, can share their voice with the world — like podcasting itself, we’ve expanded our purpose over time. Today we are focused on helping you reach larger, more global audiences and giving you the tools to develop meaningful, authentic connections with those fans. To that end, we have a couple of important updates to share as they relate to some of our features on Spotify for Podcasters. Alongside the rollout of this integration and to better optimize the needs of creators today, we are refocusing our attention — and resources — from some of our legacy tooling to the next generation of podcast innovations. As part of that shift, we are discontinuing our web and mobile native creation tools, including recording and editing tools as well as our “Music + Talk” format (an experimental feature that allowed podcasters to include full licensed music tracks in their podcast episodes on Spotify), beginning this June. https://podcasters.spotify.com/resources/learn/create/updates-to-spotify-for-podcasters

EXTERNAL EPISODE 62 - A Thousand Horses - We fill the Room with Smoke and a Room Full of Strangers A Thousand Horses was founded in 2010 in Nashville by longtime friends, vocalist Michael Hobby and lead guitarist Bill Satcher (both natives of Newberry, South Carolina), along with rhythm guitarist Zach Brown and bassist Graham DeLoach. This ballad is their debut release. The high-powered new single from A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” marks the start of the most dynamic era yet in the Nashville-based band’s career. Produced by GRAMMY Award-winner Jon Randall, the wildly life-affirming anthem delves deeper into the freewheeling originality they’ve embraced since their Dave Cobb-produced debut SOUTHERNALITY—featuring the PLATINUM-certified smash “Smoke”—and artfully merges elements of Southern Rock, Classic Country, and hard-driving Americana. Along with adorning the track with plenty of ear-catching details (achieved in part through such left-of-center instrumentation as electric sitar and talkbox), A Thousand Horses fully capture what frontman Michael Hobby refers to as “the freedom of cutting ties with the negativity of the past, and putting your energy into celebrating a new beginning.” Written after a period of intense change in their personal lives, “Highway Sound” first took shape over the course of a weekend trip to a Texas farmhouse in summer 2021, during which Hobby, guitarist Bill Satcher, bassist Graham DeLoach, and former guitarist Zach Brown came up with the song during an impromptu session on the porch. A major leap forward for A Thousand Horses, “Highway Sound” spotlights the powerful musicianship and soulful urgency first revealed on SOUTHERNALITY—a 2015 LP that reached #3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart, with “Smoke” earning recognition as the first debut single for a group to reach #1 on the Country Airplay charts that decade. Soon after launching their own label, Highway Sound Records, A Thousand Horses returned with their 2022 sophomore album BROKEN HEARTLAND, featuring standouts like “When I Hear Your Name,” “Another Mile,” and “Never Liked the Rain.” Known for their incendiary live show, A Thousand Horses have also toured the country with iconic acts like Lynyrd Skynyrd, Darius Rucker, Jason Aldean, Kid Rock and more. EPISODE 59 - Michael Sweet - Solo Tunes From Stryper's Lead Singer - Radio and Tomorrow plus Baby Doll External Version for listeners outside of Spotify SINGER/SONGWRITER/GUITARIST AND FOUNDING MEMBER OF STRYPER EMBODIES ROLE AS HARDEST WORKING MUSICIAN IN THE BUSINESS On any given day, veteran musical artist Michael Sweet can be found practicing guitar riffs, laying down vocals, writing a song or giving an interview on a podcast. And that’s just to name a few of his diverse and demanding priorities. “I’m fortunate to have so many opportunities with all sorts of projects on the table,” says the multifaceted singer/songwriter/guitarist from his Massachusetts home. “Sometimes I get overwhelmed, but as an overachiever I tend to work really well under pressure.” It would be extremely tough to find a more hardworking and accomplished musician in the business than Sweet. Need evidence? For starters, he continues to helm Grammy-nominated Christian hard-rock outfit Stryper, which he co-founded more than 35 years ago. With more than 10 million career album sales worldwide, the venerable band ascended to prominence in the 1980s with Billboard Top 40-charting singles like “Calling on You,” “Honestly” and “Always There for You.” Stryper’s 1986 multi-platinum release To Hell with the Devil has been lauded by critics and fans alike as among the best Christian rock albums of all time. The group also made history when it scored two songs simultaneously in MTV’s Top 10 with enduringly popular videos “Honestly” and “Free.” Along the way, Sweet also managed to churn out first-rate solo albums like his self-titled release in 1994, which yielded five No. 1 singles, Truth in 2000, the critically acclaimed 2015 project I’m Not Your Suicide (peaked at No. 10 in Billboard’s Hard Rock albums), and 2019’s Ten, which reached No. 4 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart. Sweet is no stranger to witnessing success all while maintaining positive spiritual themes in his prodigious catalog of work. What’s more, he consistently takes on significant side projects like a provisional stint as co-lead singer and guitarist for legendary rock band BOSTON. Never mind cooperative endeavor Sweet & Lynch with guitarist George Lynch, best known as a former original member of metal quartet Dokken, and a metal project called Sunbomb with Tracii Guns of L.A. EX57 - Bryan Adams - A Great Canadian Musical Export - Cuts Like a Knife and Everything I Do, I Do it For You Bryan Adams , in full Bryan Guy Adams , (born November 5, 1959, Kingston, Ontario, Canada), Canadian rock singer-songwriter, photographer, and social activist whose hit albums Cuts Like a Knife (1983) and Reckless (1984) made him one of the most popular and successful recording artists of the 1980s. Adams was musically talented at an early age and taught himself how to play guitar. His father served in the Canadian army, was a UN peacekeeping observer, and served as a diplomat, necessitating many relocations for the family. When his parents divorced, he lived with his mother just north of Vancouver, British Columbia. At age 16, he dropped out of high school, ready to pursue a full-time career as a musician, having already performed as lead vocalist for Canadian glam-rock band Sweeney Todd. He spent time working in a recording studio, performing on tours, and recording music for Sweeney Todd’s album If Wishes Were Horses (1977). Shortly after the recording’s release, Adams was introduced to Jim Vallance, a Canadian musician, songwriter, and producer. Vallance recognized Adams’s ability but also saw the need for further vocal training. With Vallance’s help, it was not long before Adams established a powerful, distinct sound, one compared to that of Rod Stewart, Paul Rodgers, and Steve Marriott. EX56 - Chickenfoot Alright, Alright and Up Next - The Super Group That We Want More From Chickenfoot is an American hard rock supergroup formed in 2008. The group consists of vocalist Sammy Hagar (ex-Van Halen and -Montrose), bassist Michael Anthony (also ex-Van Halen), guitarist Joe Satriani, and drummer Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers). Due to Smith's consistent recording and touring commitments with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kenny Aronoff joined the group in 2011 as a touring replacement drummer. While the band has not formally announced a breakup, in June 2016 Smith said that he had doubts about its survival due to their busy schedules. The group has released two studio albums, one live album, and one box set. Bassist Michael Anthony asserts that the name originated from initial jam sessions between Hagar, Smith, and himself: "there are three talons on a chicken's foot and there are three of us."[1] Anthony later stated: "it was just supposed to be a bullshit name that we'd used for a while, and then [when] the rumors spread about the band, everybody used that name so we thought, let's call it Chickenfoot'—it all comes down to the music anyway." Chickenfoot's second studio album, Chickenfoot III, was released on September 27, 2011. On singles such as their 2018 debut, "I Want You," and 2020's "Falling In," the band crafted a lush, post-punk-inspired sound that they built on with 2021's chart-topping full-length It Won't Always Be Like This and 2023's sophomore album Cuts & Bruises . The founding members of Inhaler began playing together as preteens in late 2012 and bonded over their shared love of the Stone Roses , Joy Division , the Cure , and Interpol . With Hewson -- the eldest son of U2 's Bono -- on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Josh Jenkinson on lead guitar, Robert Keating on bass, and Ryan McMahon on drums, the original quartet finished secondary school before self-releasing their first studio single, "It Won't Always Be Like This," in March 2019. Two months later, the group released "My Honest Face," which they promoted with a tour supporting Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds . Following that September's "Ice Cream Sundae," Inhaler placed in the Top Five of BBC's Sound of 2020 poll. The band returned in January 2020 with "We Have to Move On" and May's "Falling In." While those two tracks were stand-alone singles, the subsequently released "When It Breaks" and "Cheer Up Baby" ultimately appeared on It Won't Always Be Like This, their 2021 debut album. The LP topped the charts in both the U.K. and Ireland. The middle of 2022 saw the release of "These Are the Days," the first single from their forthcoming sophomore effort. E54 - Tyler Hubbard is Dancing in the Country with his 5 Foot 9 Wife and Family as a Solo Artist As the Georgia half of Florida Georgia Line , Tyler Hubbard spearheaded the shiny, good-time sound of bro-country in the 2010s, singing such era-defining hits as "Cruise," "Get Your Shine On," and "This Is How We Roll." Once he split with Brian Kelley in the early 2020s, Hubbard continued the legacy of FGL as a solo artist, modernizing their signature sunny sound on the 2022 number one hit "5 Foot 9," which was the first single pulled from his inaugural EP Dancin' in the Country . His eponymous full-length debut arrived the following year. A native of Monroe, Georgia, Hubbard attended college at Belmont University in Nashville, where he met Florida-born singer/songwriter Brian Kelley in a campus worship group. The pair eventually parlayed their friendship into a successful music career under the banner Florida Georgia Line . Emerging in 2010, the duo found mainstream success two years later with the release of their debut single, "Cruise," which became the first country song ever to receive diamond certification from the RIAA. The wide-ranging Grammy Award winners spent the rest of the decade at the forefront of the country-pop scene, releasing gold- and platinum-selling efforts like Here's to the Good Times , Anything Goes , and Dig Your Roots . In 2021, Hubbard and Kelley announced that they would be embarking on dual solo careers while remaining part of Florida Georgia Line . Hubbard's collaborations with Tim McGraw ("Undivided") and rapper Lathan Warlick ("My Way") appeared later that year. In early 2022, he signed with EMI Nashville and began work on his debut album, which embraced both his country and Christian roots, and saw him working with a host of regional hitmakers, including Ross Copperman , Keith Urban , and <a href="

EX52 - Amanda Marshall - It takes years to learn how to play like yourself - Fall From Grace and I Built This House Amanda Marshall steps back into the spotlight with new album It's been more than two decades since Canadian singer Amanda Marshall released new music, but the wait is finally over for her fans. Marshall is perhaps best known for her 1995 self-titled debut album, which featured hits like “Dark Horse” and “Let it Rain.” It is one of only 24 Canadian albums to achieve diamond certification in the county. Marshall followed it up with two more multi-platinum albums before disappearing from the music scene. Now, 20 years later, Marshall is back. She’s re-emerging with her first album since 2001 and a nationwide tour to go with it. “I said to someone the other day, ‘it’s sort of like slipping back into a warm bath, but you’re shocked the water’s still warm’ ... so that’s kinda what it’s been like,” she told CTV Atlantic’s Katie Kelly. Marshall says her hiatus from music began in 2002 after she fired her manager. “It triggered a landslide of legal issues that went on and on and on,” she says. “I was sort of at lose ends; there was considerable questions as to whether or not I was going to come back and make music publicly. I was always writing and recording and I knew that I had this record in my back pocket.” Marshall says words of encouragement helped her get back into the music game. “I had one friend in particular who said to me, ‘you’re too young to retire and you’re too good not to try, don’t waste your gift,’ and that really stuck with me.” Marshall’s brand new album “Heavy Lifting” will be released on June 9. Earlier this year, fans got a taste with the album’s first single -- “I Hope She Cheats.” “It’s just been shocking to me, the level of enthusiasm with which it has been received,” says Marshall. “It’s truly been just amazing.” Marshall will soon hit the road on her “25 & Counting: The Heavy Lifting tour” in support of the new album and in celebration of her past releases. She says she’s excited to see the country again, especially the East Coast. Marshall lived in Halifax for three years between the ages of 10 and 13. “I have a trove of memories of living in Nova Scotia, those were really, sort of, my early tween-formative years,” Marhsall says. “I remember everything from first school dance, my first boyfriend, my first kiss -- my first everything.” Marshall’s tour kicks off at Casino New Brunswick in Moncton, N.B., on June 11 and ends Aug. 5 at The Jubilee music festival in New Glasgow, N.S. She says she is looking forward to reconnect

EX50 - Governor Tom - From Acting to Music - An Honest Mix of Indy, Folk, Jazz and Blues GOVERNOR TOM - a singer-songwriter whose dynamic indie-folk, genre-bending style weaves truthiness and wit with unapologetic poignancy - is a pseudonym of Tom Wood , a musician-writer-actor who has co-starred in such films as The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals, Under Siege and Ulee's Gold. Currently, Tom has pursued his most revered goal of creating projects from scratch and distributing them to a worldwide audience. As Governor Tom, he brings songs of love and pain from a tale of music, money, family and politics. Singer-Songwriter Governor Tom's dynamic indie-folk, genre-bending style weaves truthiness and wit with unapologetic poignanc RELEASE OF "PUBLIC EYE" After the release of his naughty blues track “Architect of Love,” Governor Tom is back with “Public Eye,” the final track to be released as a single from his upcoming EP. Featuring two acoustic guitars, it introduces a grooving, pop/folk vibe. “That seems to be where my music is headed,” says Tom Wood, the creator of Governor Tom. “Public Eye” is an ode to the challenges of being a young starlet, “Any one of a tragic dozen,” Tom adds. “I believe it also reflects on what’s happening to many young girls’ mental health nowadays.” Tom is a multi-talented actor, writer, musician, and producer who co-starred in The Fugitive, U.S. Marshals, Under Siege, and more. He took a sabbatical from auditioning to fulfill a commitment to himself to create original works. After countless screenplays and a few development deals, nothing remained realized until 2020 when, as Governor Tom, he released his first single “A Man with a Hat,” followed in 2021 by the liberating, upbeat “Living Wild,” which was particularly well-received in the U.K. Music was always there for Tom, constantly challenging him to build and grow—learning piano from his grandmother, neighborhood “concerts” singing covers, teaching himself guitar, and numerous professional musicals and revues. When he realized that modern technology would help him bring his original creations to life, Tom went all in. One TV project that Tom has developed features the character of Governor Tom, who’s the front man of a once- famous, one-hit-wonder glam-rock band. To promote the project, Tom dedicated himself to brushing up his guitar skills. When he returned to the instrument, something had changed. All his screenwriting had grown a new muscle in him. Instead of playing covers, Tom immediately began writing song after song without restraint. “There’s a level of honesty I’m searching for through Governor Tom—honesty in storytelling, communicating, and performing—that I believe will only be attained through performing my own creations. Music does not lie.” “Public Eye

EX46 - Switchfoot - Re-Released - Meant to Live and Dare You To Move - Our Version 2023 Switchfoot SWITCHFOOT has sold almost 10 million copies worldwide of their twelve studio albums (including their 2003 double-platinum breakthrough The Beautiful Letdown and 2009's Grammy Award-winning Hello Hurricane), racked up a string of Alternative radio hit singles, and performed sold-out tours with over 5 million concert tickets sold in over 40 countries around the world. Through their unique blend of emotionally intelligent and uplifting brand of alternative rock, SWITCHFOOT has earned a devoted and loyal global fan base. SWITCHFOOT has raised over $2 million dollars to aid kids in their community through their BRO-AM Foundation. SWITCHFOOT consists of Jon Foreman (vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Jerome Fontamillas (keys, guitar) and Chad Butler (drums). Meant to Live This is a song about finding fulfillment through God. The lyrics talk about imperfection of the world we live in, and why people were "Meant to live for so much more." This song is a highlight of an ongoing theme of Switchfoot, which is that the nihilism and entropy people feel in everyday life is due to a loss of identity and faith. The lyrics were written by Jon, he said in an interview, "I'm thinking of life maybe a little bit more lyrically than a computer programmer or someone like that. But the good songs I always feel like they have very little to do with me." The lyrics were inspired by the poem The Hollow Men by T.S. Eliot. Both the poem and the song are about the superficial sense of the world and how everyone is so hollow, and that we "Were meant to live for so much more, but we lost ourselves." Dare You To Move The song was originally called "I Dare You to Move," and was included on Switchfoot's 2000 album Learning to Breathe. It was this version that appeared on the soundtrack to the film A Walk To Remember. The band decided to remix it with heavier electric guitars and stronger vocals for their album The Beautiful Letdown, this time released as "Dare You To Move." Jon Foreman said in CCM Magazine presents 100 Greatest Songs In Christian Music: "I love to write songs. I've been at it since I could play the piano. It's one of my favorite ways to pass the time. Music helps me sort out who I am, so my songs usually end up being somewhat autobiographical. I've always felt the deepest connection with honest songs, so I try to write with sincerity." Foreman went on to say that this song, "is an attempt to honestly face the gap between who I am and who I want to be; between the way the world spins and the way it should be. I've heard that we only use a small part of our brain. Maybe our soul is the same way. And maybe we're half asleep most our lives, simply reacting to the stimulus our brain receives. Action, true action, is

EX43 - Rick Cua - Dave Reconnects With His Bass Inspiration - Wear Your Colors, You're My Road and Won't Fade Away In a society that seeks fame and fortune above all, Rick Cua’s simple mission – to share the love of God through music – is a cool drink of water in a dry land. Add to that wide-ranging experience and wisdom gained from over thirty nine years in music ministry and business, along with a gift of encouragement and you have the components of an artist, teacher and speaker with a passion for helping others find their fullness in Christ. Proverbs 4:7 says “Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And whatever else you do, get good judgment.” (NLT) Rick has spent his life putting that scripture into practice. From his experiences as an artist, minister and music businessman, he has a wealth of knowledge to share; and the act of sharing is what motivates him. When you read about Rick’s experience, it is easy to understand why he is such a resource to the church. Having been a member of a successful mainstream rock group, The Outlaws, then continuing for 41 years as a Christian recording artist, serving for 5 1/2 years as Vice President of EMI Christian Music Publishing, and 32 years as an ordained minister, gives Rick a rich well to draw from. Currently, Rick focuses his time on front-line ministry at Grace Chapel in Franklin, TN. He stays active in music through speaking, writing and publishing along with playing and recording with his long time band, Blues Counsel and recently releasing his 3rd book, What Are You Known For? 31-Day Devotional & Journal. All this to support his personal mission of sharing the power of God’s Word through music, the written and spoken word and hands on ministry. “I love to get out and play music, I really do. I love teaching. I love talking and teaching about worship and songwriting, and wrapping the Word around all of that. In recent years I have become aware of the fact that I am ministering as a player and as a coach. Not only passing along my experience through mentoring but by modeling it as well.” Rick says. Rick’s career as a musician has always carried the hallmark of an artist who passionately holds on to his Biblical convictions and communicates uplifting and straightforward messages to his audience. All of his songs are written with the intent to ultimately point to Christ. “Music is such a motivator. When you put the truth in music, and you hit that emotional nerve, it works,” explains Rick. “I feel called to build people up. My goal is to take the Word and Godly principles and attach it to music that is going to get them excited, and want to sing along and want to believe in what they are hearing and what they are singing…as an artist, that’s what it’s all about.” To that end, Rick continues to write and record new songs that have been born out of a progressive artistic vision. EX42 - Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man and Miley Cyrus - Flowers - Two Songs, One Chorus After debuting atop the Billboard Hot 100 charts for the first time, Miley Cyrus is harvesting the fruits of her labor as she scored more milestones for her new single, "Flowers." "Flowers" is the lead single for Cyrus' new project, "Endless Summer Vacation," which comes out March 2023. The track was a record-setting accomplishment for the Disney alum because it was her first track to launch at the top of the genre-blending music chart. Her 2013 song "Wrecking Ball" reached No. 1 but it did not debut at the top. Now, according to Hits Daily Double , Cyrus has continued to reach more milestones, especially on the streaming platform. In its second week, the track has earned Spotify's biggest week ever for a song. Data shows that the track has generated 96 million streams worldwide at No. 1 on Spotify. In its second week, the song has already generated another 115 million. In a Billboard report , "Flowers" has amassed over 52 million streaming units in its first week. It also has racked up around 33.5 million radio airplay impressions and over 70,000 downloads. Since its release, many have gushed over the song for its apparent shade towards Cyrus' ex-husband, Liam Hemsworth. Interestingly, the song was released on Jan. 13, 2023, which was Hemsworth's birthday. TikTok users and fans alike have also theorized that Miley Cyrus' "Flowers," was an indirect answer to Bruno Mars's "When I Was Your Man," a song believed by many to have been dedicated to Cyrus, by Hemsworth. Many have compared the song side-by-side, noting that Miley's chorus - "I can buy myself flowers" - was an answer to Mars' "that I should have bought you flowers." But despite the similarities lyrically, Billboard says that "Flowers" doesn't have to credit "When I Was Your Man" writers as its. This is because there has been no sonic overlap, no direct samples, and no obvious interpolations between the two songs. Miley's verse had its own style and flow compared to Bruno's. "Lyrically, sure, there's enough similarity to make listeners think that 'Flowers' is deliberately responding to the earlier song," Music law expert Joseph Fishman pointed out . But even if we assume that's true, so what? Using one song to issue a retort to an earlier song is not, by itself, infringement. John Mayer and Taylor Swift don't need to cross-license any

EX39 - Wide Mouth Mason - not your typical, run of the mill 12-bar blues band - two songs - Midnight Rain and Companion - Lay Me Down - External Version When one thinks of the epitome of a ‘blues band’, the first thing that comes to mind is not a couple of Canadian kids coming of age in the 1980s. This is not your typical, run of the mill 12-bar blues about lost lovers, big-legged women, whiskey, church and sinnin’. This is a new voice and a new vehicle for the blues. This is Wide Mouth Mason. Wide Mouth Mason formed in 1995 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and released their debut album, The Nazarene , in 1996, drawing immediate interest and attention from the Canadian music industry. It was re-recorded songs from that debut, as well as some new songs on their 1997 self-titled sophomore recording that cemented a major label record deal, Gold status in Canada, a JUNO nomination for Best New Group, and launched the career of one of the country’s most popular blues-based rock bands. And the hits kept coming… In the years to follow, Wide Mouth Mason had another Gold record with 1999’s Where I Started , and another JUNO nomination for Best Rock Album for their Y2K release Stew , two invitations to perform at the esteemed Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland as well as extensive tours with AC/DC, ZZ Top and The Rolling Stones. Not too shabby for a couple of Canadian kids on the Prairies. Fast forward to 2019, where we find Wide Mouth Mason as a duo with original members Shaun Verreault on vocals, guitars, and Safwan Javed on percussions and vocals. Their 8th release , I Wanna Go With You , was released on indie label We Are Busy Bodies on October 25, 2019. It is Wide Mouth Mason reinvented and unapologetically blues. Drops of Jupiter - Train In an interview with VH1, lead singer Pat Monahan revealed that he wrote this song about the death of his mother. Train released their first album in 1998, and were touring that year when Monahan's mom was dying of lung cancer - she was a heavy smoker. This was before the widespread use of cell phones, and Monahan made many stops to pay phones on the tour to speak with his mom during this difficult time. In December of that year, his mother died, and in early 1999 Train was working on their next album when their record company started pressuring them for a hit. Monahan returned to his childhood home in Pennsylvania, and woke one morning with the words "back in the atmosphere" in his head. Beginning a time of healing, he started to compose the song. Said Monahan: "Loss of the most important person in my life was heavy on my mind, and the thought of 'what if no one ever really leaves? What if she's here but different. The idea was, she's back here in the atmosphere." He recorded a demo of the song and played it a week later for Donnie Ienner, who was president of their record company, Columbia. While Monahan wasn't sure how the song would go over, Ienner loved it and told him it was his Grammy song. He was right: It won Grammys for Best Rock Song and Best Instrumental Arrangement With Accompanying Vocalist. Ienner had Train record the song quickly so they could put it on the album and use it as the title track. EPISODE 35 - External Version Wolfgang Van Halen - Mammoth - Being his own musician and two songs - Distance and Don't Back Down Distance Named in tribute to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Wolfgang Van Halen is the only child of the late musician Eddie Van Halen. Wolfgang first joined his father's band Van Halen as their bassist in 2007, and started work on his debut solo album about a dozen years later. He released "Distance" on November 16, 2020 as his first single under his Mammoth WVH moniker after losing his dad to throat and lung cancer. Wolfgang explained: "'Distance' is a song that I wrote between 2013 and 2015. My father had struggled with his health a lot throughout the years, and it was a song that came out during one of the darker times, where it was my brain playing a scenario of what it would be like if I didn't have him in my life, and being able to focus on the idea that while we may not be together at some point, we're never really that far apart." "Mammoth" has significance in Van Halen lore: That was the name of the band before David Lee Roth joined. All proceeds from the sale of the single are going to one of Eddie Van Halen's favorite charities, The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, which donates musical instruments to schools. Wolfgang inherited many of his father's musical talents. He plays every instrument on the track, including a virtuoso guitar solo, and provides vocals. Don't Back Down "Don't Back Down" features a dramatic mid-song instrumental section reminiscent of Queens Of The Stone Age. Wolfgang is a big fan of the Josh Homme-fronted band. He pointed out to UCR that another of the Mammoth WVH tracks, "The Big Picture," was called "Queens" as a demo title. "If you thought you heard Queens on this one, it's definitely on that one, too," he said. Wolfgang wrote the song, sang on it, and played all the instruments himself. The video has a little fun with this one-man-band concept, showing identical Wolfgang Characters at every instrument as they record the song in 5150 Studios, which was set up by his dad, Eddie. At the beginning of the clip, drummer Wolf annoys his bandmates by showing up late. They get it together and record a take, then we see two more Wolfgangs in the control room who declare it "terrible." Producer was one role Wolf didn't do himself: Michael "Elvis" Baskette handled it. The feature works through a new Enhance button that now appears at the top of playlists. Tap it to toggle it on, which causes Spotify’s algorithm to automatically add recommended songs that it thinks will fit into your playlist. Enhance-recommended songs will be marked with a bright green sparkles icon to indicate that they weren’t part of your original list and can be added permanently by tapping the plus button that appears next to the song. SPOTIFY’S ALGORITHM IS HERE TO SPICE UP YOUR PLAYLISTS WITH NEW SONGS Songs added through Enhance won’t replace or mess with your existing playlist songs, though, and can easily be removed by simply toggling off the Enhance button at the top of your playlist. You also won’t have to worry about the recommendations drowning out your original songs — Spotify will only add a maximum of 30 songs, with the additions spaced out after every two tracks. Enhanced playlists are available on both Android and iOS and are set to roll out over the next month to Spotify Premium subscribers in the following countries: Andorra, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UK, and the US. The company notes that it’ll roll the feature out to additional countries in the future. ___ The Add To My Playlist Website Have a podcast and need a great website? EX28 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners A star-studded line-up, including Paul McCartney and Liam Gallagher, joined the Foo Fighters for an emotional tribute to the band's drummer Taylor Hawkin s at a concert in London on Saturday night. Hawkins, 50, died in March in Bogotá, Colombia, hours before the Foo Fighters were set to take the stage at the Festival Estereo Picnic. The band immediately canceled its remaining tour dates. Saturday's concert was the first time the band had performed together since Hawkins' death. According to the UK's PA Media news agency, a tearful Foo Fighters front man Dave Grohl told the crowd at London's Wembley Stadium: "Taylor loved to jam and record with anybody and everybody. He loved to play music every day. And there aren't too many people that he's never jammed with. So this collection of friends and family and musicians, this is all brought together by him and we're all connected here today by that one guy." The theme of family was ever-present throughout the show. Sixteen-year-old Oliver Shane Hawkins joined his father's band for a powerful rendition of Foo Fighters song "My Hero." "Ladies and gentlemen, we have one more drummer that's going to come up and play with us," Grohl said as he welcomed Hawkins' son to the stage. "And let me tell you I don't think I've ever seen anyone hit the drums as hard as this person, but beyond that, he's a member of our family. And he needs to be here tonight with all of us, and I think it makes sense that he's going to come up and play with us tonight." Some of music's biggest names turned out to honor Hawkins including Queen's Roger Taylor and Brian May, Rush, AC/DC singer Brian Johnson and Nile Rodgers. The Pretenders' Chrissie Hynde, pop star Kesha, Eurovision sensation Sam Ryder and The Darkness front man Justin Hawkins also joined the celebration. In this episode I share two songs that I have added to my playlist from the Foo's - Foo Fighters - Times like these (Acoustic) Foo Fighters - Wheels (Official HD Video) Thanks for supporting the podcast! ___ The Add To My Playlist Website Have a podcast and need a great website? EX 26 - Max Gowan - Musician First, Audio Engineer, Song Writer - Ornamental, No More Chirping, Snakes and Steely Dan - Dirty Work Hi, my name is Max and I'm an audio engineer based in Raleigh, NC. I received my BA in Communications as well as a minor in Audio Technology from American University in Washington, DC in 2019. I'm also a musician and producer and have been making records under my own name since I was 16. After mixing my own music for years, I developed my ear and began to work on albums other than my own. I started to get more work through word of mouth, which has allowed me to become involved in dozens of records by artists that I love. I am a musician first, and that's how I approach the engineering side of this art. I know how much your songs matter to you, because I know how much mine matter to me! My goal is never to impart "my sound" onto your project. Instead, I want to communicate with you about your desires for your music, so we can take a collaborative approach that results in the final mix or master that you are looking for. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I look forward to working with you. Max Gowan has found himself as a centrifugal figure in the burgeoning music scene of central North Carolina. Through his behind-the-scenes work as an audio engineer, recording, mixing, and mastering both for local musicians and musicians around the country, he is a key force of all the invisible parts that go into music production. But with his sixth full length album Glossolalia, Max Gowan is taking a step out from the background, delving into personal and intimate themes for his new full length album. He indicates that this is a noticeable shift thematically – an intentional movement away from the muted or covert storytelling, and a direct effort to be more visible and transparent, even biographical, in his songwriting. The 25-year-old native of Raleigh, North Carolina has a long list to show for his music production accomplishments, and now his attention to detail and audio craftsmanship shines through on an album with production credits all his own. Gowan's richness in texture and soundscapes will often crown him as your favorite musician's favorite musician – the talent and dexterity instrumentality and the obvious knowledge of production uplift this project. releases September 2, 2022 "Viola and French Horn on Track 1 played by Caroline White Additional Synth on Track 2 played by Nate Wagner French Horn on Track 2 played by Caroline White Additional Synth on Track 5 played by Rex Echevarria Drums on Track 5 played by Chris Coco Additional drums on Track 6 played by Chris Coco Drums on Track 7 played by Travis Harrington Track 8 was co-produced by me and Brandon Breazeale Huge thank you to all my friends and family, and to Sound As Language for putting this out." The most important thing for me is to grow musically and make a more expansive and meaningful artistic statement with every new project.” Among Johnson's many accolades are a Grammy award for "Cliffs Of Dover " (a track from his Platinum certified Ah Via Musicom), lifetime induction into the Guitar Player Gallery of Greats, his listing among the "100 Greatest Guitarists of the 20th Century" by Musician. EPISODE 24 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners! LIFEHOUSE Jason Wade: Singer/songwriter/guitarist/piano Rick Woolstenhulme: Drums Bryce Soderberg: Bass “And we turn it inside out/To take it back/To the start.” “Who We Are” With the release of Lifehouse: Greatest Hits on Universal Music Enterprises, a chronological collection of the band’s 18 hit singles and best songs, this year marks a time for the band to look back on a remarkably successful career. Founded in 1999 by singer/ songwriter/guitarist Jason Wade in suburban Los Angeles while still in his teens as Blyss, Lifehouse has forged a path that most bands only dream about, topping the charts, having hit songs all over the radio, sharing the stage at arenas with the likes of the Rolling Stones, Pearl Jam and Matchbox Twenty. Since bursting on to the scene in 2000 with their hit debut, No Name Face – which sported the chart-topping Modern Rock-turned Hot 100 #2 hit, “Hanging by a Moment” – Lifehouse has released seven albums that have cumulatively sold more than 15 million around the world, spawning a string of multi-format airplay hits like “You and Me”, “First Time”, “Whatever It Takes” and “Halfway Gone”, the latter four co-written by Wade with collaborator Jude Cole. Having taken some time out after the release of 2015’s Out of the Wasteland , Lifehouse’s three members have dedicated themselves to individual pursuits. Recently signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing, Wade has devoted himself to writing, releasing 40 songs that have never previously been available- one a week on the Internet. Bassist Bryce Soderberg now fronts his own band Komox (named after his Canadian hometown), while drummer Rick Woolstenhulme moved with his wife to Arizona to pursue online session work from his recording studio. “Radio has changed dramatically in the last few years, so it’s a nice change to be off that treadmill,” admits Wade, the son of missionaries who traveled to various countries, including Hong Kong before returning to the Pacific Northwest and then the West Valley of L.A., where he turned to songwriting to cope with a “traumatic” adolescence. “We feel a profound gratitude to be able to get to this point,” echoes Soderberg, who joined the band in 2004 in time to play on 2005’s Lifehouse album. “That we can celebrate our accomplishments with a new tour and Greatest Hits record makes this an amazing time for us.” https://lifehousemusic.com/ Lifehouse - Hanging By A Moment (Official Video) Lifehouse - Somewhere In Between

Emma G shares two songs with us today - The Wolf I Feed - Fighter This is the Spotify External version - to hear this podcast head over to Spotify and by signing up for a paid membership, you can hear this podcast with the music imbedded into the actual episode! About our guest! Emma G is an award-winning musician, author, and youth empowerment coach, I have had a lifelong battle with a rare neurological condition called hydrocephalus, so I understand trauma. I’ve been able to use music to recover from multiple traumas, including ten brain surgeries, by writing and singing my truth, sharing my experiences, and turning my lessons into blessings. I have a unique style that marries the styles of pop, soulful ballads, and a gritty rock edge. I’m now on a mission to save the world one song at a time, not just through my own music, but also by coaching teenagers to channel their voices and struggles through the powerful tool of songwriting. We all experience trauma, but songwriting is an effective tool to not simply communicate your teenagers’ struggles, but to identify key issues, simplify overwhelm, find the right language to communicate their thoughts, and present their learnings, feelings and overwhelm in a way that is non-confrontational, authentic, and creative. Youth Empowerment through Songwriting coaching is the perfect way I combine my background as a teacher, lecturer, YMCA youth coordinator and – of course – a singer/songwriter. Music is an incredibly effective tool for alchemy: helping audiences and teen songwriters alike overcome struggles, trauma, stress and overwhelm with songs of overcoming, resilience, self-love and stepping into one’s power. EPISODE 18 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners! The band began in 1983 originally as a solo project for singer-songwriter/guitarist Steve Plunkett (also known as "Plunk"), who had recently left the band Silver Condor , due to his frustration with their lack of interest in recording his songs. Plunkett then began playing and recording his own material with a group of his musician friends, most of whom had previously played with him in other bands. On lead guitar was Steve Lynch, who had played with Plunkett in the band Looker , and who has a distinctive two-handed, fretboard-tapping technique, which eventually won him the "Guitar Solo of the Year" award from Guitar Player magazine for his work on Autograph's signature song, "Turn Up The Radio." Bassist Randy Rand knew Plunkett from their days together in Wolfgang , a club band in Los Angeles, which has been described as a local legend and of which Kevin Dubrow (lead singer of Quiet Riot ) said, "They smoked us all.... They got better response than us and Van Halen ." Steve Isham, keyboard player and longtime friend of Plunkett's, had earlier played with Holly Penfield , and on drums, Plunkett called on Keni Richards, his bandmate from John Doe , and whose friendship with Van Halen lead singer David Lee Roth led to Autograph 's big break. Over time, this group of musicians recording together took the form of an actual band. Plunkett chose the name "Autograph" for the band, having been inspired by hearing Def Leppard 's similarly-titled song "Photograph" on the radio. They recorded their first demos in late 1983, but gave copies of the demo to a few friends only. One of these friends, Andy Johns, a record producer, played their demo for David Lee Roth of Van Halen , who subsequently invited the band to open for them in their 1984 tour. The band rose to prominence as an opening act for Van Halen on their 1984 tour, an act of distinction for an unsigned band. EPISODE 14 - EXTERNAL Version for Non-Spotify Listeners! Featured - The Certified Guitar Player - Tommy Emmanuel and his two songs - Blue Moon and Angelina Two-time Grammy nominee Tommy Emmanuel is one of Australia’s most respected musicians. The legendary guitarist has a professional career that spans five decades and continues to intersect with some of the finest musicians throughout the world. A household name in his native Australia, Tommy has garnered hundreds of thousands of loyal fans worldwide. Tommy’s unique style – he calls it simply “finger style” – is akin to playing guitar the way a pianist plays piano, using all ten fingers. Rather than using a whole band for melody, rhythm, bass, and drum parts, Tommy plays all that – and more – on one guitar. Guitar legend Chet Atkins was one of the first to inspire Emmanuel to try this “fingerpicker” style as a child. Decades later, Atkins himself became one of Emmanuel’s biggest fans. In 1980 Emmanuel made a trip to the United States and finally met and got to play with his hero, Chet Atkins, in Nashville. From that magical moment forward, the Tennessee master guitarist and producer took the twenty-something Australian ace under his wing and began introducing him to other guitar legends. Tommy speaks of his mentor with the love and gratitude of a son and Atkins’ influences are evident throughout his music and personal philosophy. Emmanuel’s technical precision, his virtuosic improvisations and his unusually broad repertoire – which encompasses not only country and bluegrass, but pop, jazz, blues, gospel, even classical, flamenco, and aboriginal styles – bespeak Chet Atkins’ legacy. Recently we lost a great musician - Oliver Taylor Hawkins (February 17, 1972 – March 25, 2022) was an American musician, widely known as the drummer for the rock band Foo Fighters , with whom he recorded eight studio albums between 1999 and 2021. Before joining the band in 1997, he was the touring drummer for Sass Jordan and for Alanis Morissette , as well as the drummer in the progressive experimental band Sylvia . Dave Grohl found a kindred spirit, friend and comrade in Taylor - their mutual admiration for each other was displayed in interviews, on and off stage and in the music. Dave said in a past interview about his first meeting with Taylor.... "The first time we met, we were at some radio show backstage, and he came up with a beer in his hand. He’s like, ‘Hey, man, what’s up? I’m Taylor, I play with Alanis Morissette. Dude, I love your record, it’s so cool!’ He was such a spaz. I was like, ‘Wow, you’re either my twin or my spirit animal, or my best friend!’ In the first 10 seconds of meeting him. And, of course, I’d seen him play the drums, and I thought he was an amazing drummer.” This episode of The Add To My Playlist Podcast highlights two songs - a song written by Dave dedicated to Taylor called Foo Fighters - On The Mend Foo Fighters ft. E06 King's X is an American Rock Trio and featuring two songs - We Were Born To Be Loved and The Difference (in the Garden of St. Anne’s In this episode of The Add To My Playlist Podcast, we focus in on the amazing, Kings X King's X is an American rock band that originated in 1979 in Springfield, Missouri . They were first called The Edge and later became Sneak Preview before settling on its current name in 1985. The band's current lineup has remained intact for more than three decades, consisting of vocalist and bassist Doug Pinnick , drummer Jerry Gaskill and guitarist Ty Tabor . Their music combines progressive metal , funk and soul with vocal arrangements influenced by gospel , blues , and British Invasion rock groups. Despite a largely underground reputation as the "musician's musicians", King's X was pivotal in the early development of progressive metal , From the Faith Hope Love album - King’s X is a 3 piece band that have some of the most intricate arrangements both musically and vocally - for me the end of this song is a masterpiece - the pauses, hesitations, breaks and runs just make me smile - start at the 3:00 minute mark… 3:37 has a great drum break, the song ending just keeps going and going and going - this is the Energizer bunny song for sure! King’s X - We Were Born To Be Loved For something completely different, and to demonstrate the versatility of this band check out my favorite acoustic tune from King’s X - this tune has rich rich rich harmonies! This is a master class on acoustic guitar arrangements. EX05 - Anysley Lister UK’s hottest contemporary blues guitarist with two songs, Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) and Free In this episode of the Add To My Playlist Podcast we feature Aynsley Lister. Aynsley Lister is one of the UK’s hottest contemporary blues guitarists – many consider him to be among the best in the world. His unique brand of blues-based rock delivers contemporary songwriting fueled with the kind of heart and soul that’s missing from so much modern music. Whether passionately writing and recording his own material or mesmerizing audiences at his live shows, one thing is abundantly clear: music is hard-wired to his DNA and flows from his fingertips like sonic bolts of lightning. With over 100,000 albums sold, lashings of critical acclaim and years of high profile touring, Lister’s resumé speaks for itself and firmly secures his position as a leading light in the resurgence of British blues-infused music. Lister started playing guitar at 8 and played his first concert in a bar band at the age of 13. He had learned guitar by playing along to his father's old 45s of Freddie King , John Mayall and Eric Clapton . By the time he was 18, having already been in several bands, he formed his own, which recorded two albums - Messin' With The Kid (1996) and Pay Attention! (1997). “Music is a release for me. When I play I get lost in it and it's a very happy place to be” - Aynsley Lister Aynsley Lister - Purple Rain - Live (Prince Cover) As a fender strat guitar player, I really enjoyed Aynsley’s version of Prince’s Purple Rain - Spotify suggested it to me awhile back and i fell in love with his version! EX04 Featuring: Susie McLean an artist I have played with and her two songs Sing Your Song and ‘Till the Morning Comes This episode features: Susie McLean! I had the unique pleasure of helping Susie form a band here in Ontario for select performances - I played bass and guitar for Susie’s live shows. We had an amazing live band and we had the opportunity to play at Indigo’s in Toronto as well as Niagara area wineries! From Susie’s site - For me, it all started with music. Growing up in a household where Gospel music was the norm, I quickly connected to music which led to playing piano and songwriting. Susie was nominated for an original piece she wrote called “Sing Your Song'' at the Independent Music Awards and another nomination as “Best Jazz Artist” at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. Susie can be heard across Canada at every Chapters Indigo on their in-store playlist. On top of a great musical career, Susie is also a professional actor! From Susie’s imdb page: Susie McLean is an actor, known for Pixels (2015), High-Rise Rescue (2017) and Beauty and the Beast (2012). As mentioned, this first song for your playlist is Susie’s original song - Sing Your Song. A great relaxed jazzy tune - such a beautiful song. Enjoy! Susie McLean - Sing Your Song This second song was always fun to play live - I always loved the light gallop to the tune and when the drums kicked in the song would lift into a nice groove - this was a great song to perform live. The ending always made me a little nervous - I only had one shot to hit that final walk at the end of the song!! Susie McLean - ‘Till the Morning Comes Please add Susie’s songs to your playlist - enjoy one of Indigo’s featured artists right here on Spotify Susie’s links: https://www.susiemclean.com/ @addtomyplaylistpodcast on all social platforms podcast presented by True Media Solutions
