Imagine having the power to mold your kids into value-creating adults who understand the value of money and work. Sounds incredible, right? Well, our guest today, Scott Donnell, is here to share his insights on how to do just that! With a background in building companies and a burning desire to instill financial acumen in young minds, Scott has dedicated his life to teaching value creation to children. He has created a unique system and an app that not only helps parents save money but also educates kids on budgeting and saving. Now picture a legacy that goes beyond wealth, where you pass down values and stories that last generations. Intriguing, isn’t it? Scott postulates that creating family legacies should pivot on value creation rather than money accumulation. He meticulously breaks down three types of values – material, emotional, and spiritual – and how each contributes to crafting a successful family legacy. This discussion is punctuated with practical examples from Scott’s life, offering us a real-life portrait of how to instill the idea of earning based on the value created. This isn’t just about passing on money, but about passing on values, character, and the power of hard work that will have lasting effects. So, join us as we navigate the path to creating a future generation that's financially literate and values-driven. This week's podcast is one that touches on many aspects of raising children. Michel Bergeron grew up in a French-speaking home in Canada in a military family that exposed him early on to many different cultures and diversity. He shares some of the things he is doing with his four daughters that have helped them connect with each other and have meaningful conversations. The Esplin family tragically lost their oldest child, Mason (he was 17 at the time), on March 13, 2020, due to injuries he sustained in a dirt bike accident. The grief of losing Mason has, at times, been all-consuming. Derrick has learned through Mason's passing that there are things that people can say that are helpful to a grieving parent, as well as things that should not be said. Suffering through the loss of a child is something that no parent is equipped to deal with and Derrick has learned that "it's ok to not be ok". He hopes to be able to provide some perspective for the grief and longing that accompanies child loss, as well as share some tips on what other people can say and do when they have family or friends that lose a child. From biking across the Continental US in just over a week to recently hiking Mt. Kilimanjaro, Ben has found that the secret to his happiness is constantly pushing what the normal is and discovering that we as humans have more potential than we ever thought possible. Ben discusses the challenges and lessons of infertility, raising a son with special needs, overcoming self doubt and tackling challenges head on. With adventure as a metaphor for life, Ben writes new chapters of his life everyday, and encourages us all to happen to the world, instead of waiting for the world to happen to us. Growing up in Glasgow Scotland with a gym teacher for a father taught Ross McGarvey a few things about work ethic. Hustle, attitude and drive were part of his life and he's teaching his young sons the power of being in the moment. Driving them to get outside, play and learn by failing, and dealing with life's challenges in a new way has lead them to a strong culture that influences his children to daily exclaim that today is the BEST DAY EVER! Ross is a joy to learn from and will be a perennial favorite to listen to and share with your friends and family. Ross is the owner of several successful businesses including Avant8, a leader in social media, SEO, design, digital marketing, PR and business development. Mark Massey is a very effective communicator and connector. He's had plenty of practice as a dad and as an serial entrepreneur. Mark discusses the “3 things” he has had to work on to become a better father. Mark covers what it was like being raised by a dedicated step-father after the loss of his father as a child. He shares many 'ah-ha' moments with us as we cover topics like unconditional love, allowing our kids to fail and allowing ourselves those introspective moments as fathers to change course and become better versions of ourselves. Introducing technology and smartphones to kids and teens can be a very nuanced endeavor. Bill Brady joins us today to talk about how his company Troomi Wireless, is giving families the tools for them to properly introduce technology at the rate that's best for individual kids: allowing parents to train them how to use the technology that will be a major part of their lives. Bill also shares how his experiences as a father helped shape the company's ethos in building the Troomi operating system. Bill is a likeable guy. He was the student body President of BYU. He is a very thoughtful friend and is likely one of the nicest people you'll ever meet. He is Canadian after all! Make it a Great Week! The foundation on which we build a life long relationship with our children has to be strong. We all want to help our children and guide them in ways that will lead them to make good decisions and avoid heartache. But those conversations happen when we purposefully put in the work to build the communication channels beforehand and assure our kids that we are on their team as coaches and guides. Jim Burwell has learned these lessons from his own experience as a father and as a youth leader. His experiences give a great cross section into what kids are dealing with and the ways that we as parents can best help our kids navigate the challenges of today's world. In preparation for this interview, Bryce Blanchard texted his kids a simple question. "Can you share with me lessons or principles I have taught you as a father that have been most meaningful?" He shares their responses and talks about how some of those lessons have been taught, certain ones that have been successful and a few lessons he's learned along the way. Bryce is the father to 4 kids ages 12-20. He's been purposeful in creating a very successful business and has translated much of those successful practices into a culture at home. From a family-derived vision and mission statement to coaching 25 of his kids' sports teams, Bryce brings valuable insight to parenting and leaves us with many action items to interact purposefully with our families. Bryce also shares best practices for setting expectations for post high school life and communicating those up front with your children. Make it a great week! James Stephenson grew up without a father in the home. He realized that he missed out on a lot of lessons that dads usually teach their sons. Because of his background he decided to start the YouTube Channel mystepdad.org to help young men learn some important lessons about life skills and growing up. Perhaps the most important lesson he teaches is helping these young men build their self esteem and realize that they have enormous worth. As gentlemen, we all should rise up to meet the needs of any fatherless among us. Check out the show on any of your favorite platforms and give us a like and follow if you like our content! Anthony's story is about finding a home with loving parents and the deprogramming that came after years of heartache. Anthony overcame the odds and has now developed a way to "make shift happen". He speaks all across the country and coaches his clients on how to overcome the self-limiting beliefs that we tell ourselves and make serious progress toward being the person we were meant to be. Since Chris Naugle was a kid he's had the ability to visualize his dreams. Whether that was becoming a professional snowboarder or a successful business owner, he's seen the power of visualization. When it comes to teaching our kids about seeing their dreams become a reality, nothing can be more powerful to them that knowing that their father, mother or mentor is standing right behind them. Chris touches on the way kids learn, and what he's learning as a father to a toddler.
