Resilience is the ability to withstand or recover quickly from difficulties.

It's about being mentally tough.

That's something we need at any age.

But particularly at midlife.

Because midlife is when we're kind of getting it from all sides.

We're at the peak of our career.

We might still have our children at home.

Or we might be dealing with children leaving the nest.

We might also be dealing with aging parents.

It's also the time of life when we can have more pressing financial problems.

Or health problems.

Bottom line, midlife is probably the time when we'll most need to be resilient.

Many of us think that we're either resilient or we're not.

But the truth is, resilience is a muscle.

It's a learned way of being.

Some of us acquire resilience skills in our youth by weathering challenging experiences.

Or perhaps by participating in team sports.

But resilience can be learned at any age.

It's a way of thinking, feeling and behaving that helps you to cope.

And bounce back.

Believing that you're better for having had the (difficult) experience.

And confident in the knowledge you have what it takes now to face that situation next time.

This is important. Not just at midlife but at any age.

And this is what we're talking about on this week's podcast.

Give it a listen. Then share it with a friend.
