About the series: For 40 days, the army of Israel hid in fear of Goliath. Why did they hide? Why were they paralyzed by fear? Because they were an army of identity amnesiacs! They had forgotten WHO they were! This series will remind us WHO we are IN CHRIST. About this week's message: Jesus did not create us on an assembly line to be cast aside and forgotten. We are not out of His sight and out of His mind. Instead, we are always in His sight and we are always on His mind. Key Phrase: “How precious are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them!” Psalm 139:17

About the series: Pirates were feared raiders of treasures on the high seas. They lied, killed, pillaged, and plundered at will. Sailing vessels were always on high alert for any signs of pirates. There are plenty'o pirates around today when it comes to our personal “treasures.” If you look carefully, Jack Sparrow could be just around the bend. About this week's message: The Land of Contentment is a land that is highly sought after but often elusive by many people. The Land of Contentment is a place Pirates do not want us to settle in. But for those who find it, enjoy a life of peace, rest, and joy! Key Phrase: “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances.” Philippians 4:11

About the series: Worship is our response, both personal and corporate, to God for Who He is, and what He has done, expressed in and by the things we say and the way we live. About this week's message: Our human tendency is to be all about ME & MINE. What God wants from us is to be about YOU and YOURS, Lord! Jesus sacrificed himself to show us how much we are worth to Him. God-glorifying worship involves sacrifice to demonstrate how much worth the Lord means to us. Key Phrase: “Let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise.” Hebrews 13:15

This Week: Worshipping God is not passive but active. It requires not only a reaction of the heart but some sort of physical response. Whether it’s our heart and/or our body, the picture of worship is of one who is bowing down. Key Phrase: “His worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

Each worship path leads to a throne. You’re going to give God’s breath to something or someone. Key Phrase: “His worshippers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:24

This Series: 1 Peter is written to Gentile believers living in a hostile, pagan culture. Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Peter closes his letter with a gentle admonition to church leaders. The lowest leverage of leadership is one’s title. Too often, ministry leaders “lord” over their ministry out of selfishness, pride, or arrogance. Instead, godly leadership humbly and lovingly serves the flock for God’s glory, not their own. Key Phrase: “Eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you.” 1 Peter 5:3

Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Believers, especially today, need to stop worrying about the wicked and start looking at their own behavior and motives behind the behavior and live in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. Suffering for righteousness is better than suffering for stupidity. It’s time for the “Church” to take a healthy check in the mirror! Key Phrase: “For it is time for the judgment to begin with God’s household.” 1 Peter 4:17

Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Anyone can repay evil with evil. However, living the Alien Life will cause believers to repay evil with blessing. This type of behavior will send shockwaves of blessing to those who witness it. Key Phrase: “On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called to so that others may inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:9

Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: A healthy, godly marriage is one of the best testimonies for Christ today. Why? Because great marriages are becoming more and more rare. Peter breaks down how to treat your spouse when they are not a believer or not acting like one. Here are practical ways to bless one’s marriage as a testimony for others to see God in and through you. Key Phrase: “That they may be won over without words by the behavior...” 1 Peter 3:1

Peter points believers to the HOPE they have in the midst of their suffering that is fueled by the HOPE of the return of Christ. This Week: Light is the strongest contrast to darkness. Living as people of the light will draw attention. May we live in such a way that we are living billboards that give great advertisement for our Savior. Key Phrase: “Live such good lives among the pagan that…they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” 1 Peter 2:12

Not weird, but different. Choosing to live differently will appear strange to those who don’t know Christ. However, the Alien Life can become attractive because it is so rare! Key Phrase: “Live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear.” 1 Peter 1:17

This Series: Earlier this year we looked at questions God asked in the Old Testament. To finish out this summer, we will look at 4 penetrating questions that Jesus asked in the New Testament – questions that apply to us today. This Week: Words mean things. The meaning of Lord is: 1. a title of honor expressive of respect and reverence; 2. To whom a person belongs about which he has power of deciding; 3. one who has control. Given the weight behind its meaning, to call Jesus your Lord and then not obey what he says is a slap to his face. Ouch! Key Phrase: “Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?” Luke 6:46

Key Phrase: “Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:35 -41

This Series: Earlier this year we looked at questions God asked in the Old Testament. To finish out this summer, we will look at 4 penetrating questions that Jesus asked in the New Testament – questions that apply to us today. This Week: It is incredibly easy to find fault in those around us. On the flip side, it is so difficult to see our own faults. If we are honest, this question hits all of us squarely in the heart. Key Phrase: “First take the plank out of your own eye.” Matthew 7:5

This Series: We all get squeezed by life, whether it’s an irritating driver, co-worker, neighbor, or anyone else who gets on our nerves. We all face frustrating life events such as car problems, unexpected bills, unmet expectations, or an end of a relationship. When we get squeezed by life, something WILL come out of us. It will either sweet or it will be sour. What comes out depends on how close we are walking with the Spirit. This Week: Someone will little-to-no self-control is still a child. Self-control is a sign of maturity. A lack of self-control is embarrassing while one with self-control is respectable. This fruit of the Spirit is greatly needed today. Following the Spirit of God will help us make wise choices with the emotions we feel and the words that we want to share. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… self-control.” Galatians 5:23

However, a horse that has be broken and trained is another story all together. This horse you can trust with a child on its back and a bridle in its mouth. Gentleness means strength under control. Jesus modeled gentleness when he was beaten and falsely accused. He chose to remain silent – the epitome of gentleness. Anyone can go “off” on someone else when they are angry. It takes incredible power to remain calm (gentle) when someone is going “off” on you. This fruit of the Spirit is something many will admire and respect today. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… gentleness…” Galatians 5:23

Relationships, marriages, and commitments are broken easily whenever the situation gets difficult or inconvenient. Being faithful to your word used to mean a great deal. Walking in step with the Spirit will cause us to be the rare person today: someone who is faithful; one who others can count on. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… faithfulness…” Galatians 5:22

Comments on social media are rude and harsh. Drivers won’t let other cars merge, even if their blinker is on. Smiles are rare while curse words are everywhere. However, one of the sweetest fruits of the spirit is kindness such as: talking kindly, greeting kindly, disagreeing kindly, driving kindly, etc. Sadly, studies show the first thing to disappear in a marriage is simple kindness. This won’t happen when a follower is in step with the Spirit. Key Phrase: “The fruit of the Spirit is… kindness…” Galatians 5:22

• This Series: The Trinity is the most difficult biblical doctrine for the human brain to understand: There are 3 distinct aspects of singular Godhead. We can understand God the Father and we can identify with God the Son because we can read stories about Jesus. However, God the Spirit is a mystery to most people. This series will help you understand this amazing Helper that Jesus left for His followers. • This Week: Hearing, "The Lord spoke to me," or "God told me..." can cause some people to question the reality or legitimacy of those statements. On the surface, it sounds strange but the longer you have walked with God, those statements are quite normal. In fact, Jesus predicted things like this would happen when the Holy Spirit came.

If you’ve asked these questions, this series is for you. We recently studied some of God’s questions. Now let’s talk about a few of life’s big questions that many of us have. • This Week: Sometimes, things in this life feel beyond our control – bad habits, addictions, bondage to certain sins, etc. You want to break the cycle and gain control of what feels uncontrollable, but victory seems elusive. Where does faith fit within this question? Key Phrase: “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12:1

This question is also one of the main reasons why some believers walk away from their faith in God. To answer this question, you must turn to an objective standard of truth because this question is in fact, a moral question. Thankfully, the Bible is an objective standard of truth that is unbiased and non-changing. Let's dive into this difficult topic through the prism of God's Word. Key Phrase: “So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary.” 2 Corinthians 4:18

• This Week: This “triumphant” arrival to Jerusalem brought Jesus to tears. These were tears of sorrow because the people had completely missed His purpose for coming; not as a political messiah, but a spiritual one. Jesus prophesied the destruction of Jerusalem which would be the end of temple and their entire sacrificial system of Judaism. Daniel prophesied the arrival of the Messiah prior to the destruction of the temple which would happen in 70 AD. Sadly, most Jews missed their Messiah who was already here. Key Phrase: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!” Luke 19:38

• This Series: The questions God asks are questions He already knows the answers to. But these divine questions reveal the heart and nature of not only God, but of us as well. • This Week: One of Satan’s popular tools to keep people from God’s blessings are distractions. Sometimes the distractions are sinful distractions. Other times they are distractions that are good in nature. Regardless, distraction can a cause us to drop the Lord down our priority list which in return will result in us losing God’s blessings in our life. Key Phrase: “Give careful thought to your ways.” Haggai 1:5

• This Series: The questions God asks are questions He already knows the answers to. But these divine questions reveal the heart and nature of not only God, but of us as well. • This Week: The #1 question we ask God is WHY? We often ask that question out of anger and/or disillusionment. Job and his friends cannot understand why Job has lost everything important in his life. They spend some time guessing for reasons. Finally, God answers “out of the storm” to Job. God’s answer comes in the form of a question. In fact, many questions that are illustrating to Job that God is God and he is not. We often need this reminder. Key Phrase: “Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer me. Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?” Job 38:3-4

But these divine questions reveal the heart and nature of not only God, but of us as well. • This Week: It is all too easy for human beings to get angry at a holy, all-powerful, sovereign God. We somehow feel justified when we are angry at God when something doesn’t go our way. God doesn’t have to justify His compassion on those who we despise or even hate. Key Phrase: “Is it right for you to be angry?” Jonah 4:4

But these divine questions reveal the heart and nature of not only God, but of us as well. • This Week: God has called His followers to serve the Lord. People often associate the call of God to only pastors and missionaries. Not true. Who will be God’s representative at your job, school, and neighborhood? Who will serve in areas in our church that need someone to serve? Most people think, “Somebody will. Anybody can.” But the truth is, nobody often does. What is God calling you to do to advance His kingdom? Key Phrase: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” Isaiah 6:8

Sometimes running to God and asking him for something we know is outside the will of God will be a short conversation with the Lord. Key Phrase: “What are you doing here, Elijah?” 1 Kings 19:9

It was a question He already knew the answer to. God knows where each of us are. There is no place we can go to escape His presence and His ever watchful (and caring) eyes. Key Phrase: “Then the Lord God called to the man, Where are you?" Genesis 3:9

• This Series: This 12 week series will look at the major themes in the book of Romans. This Epistle provides the fullest explanation of the gospel in the New Testament. It pulls no punches while describing man’s condition, the cause and effect of sin, and the transformational power of the gospel. • This Week: Paul begins the book of Romans with "me" and ends the book with "we". In 27 verses in chapter 16, Paul gives a shout out to 37 individuals who have greatly impacted the ministry. He does this due to his gratitude for their investment in his life and in the church at Rome. It's easy to bypass this chapter due to many names that are difficult to pronounce. However, this chapter gives great insight into a healthy church; a church God assigned people to be a part of. If God has assigned you to GracePoint Church, there is an important role to play. And God is writing down our names as we serve Him through our local church.

This is called legalism. A legalist looks down on people who draw lines where they draw lines. Paul addresses disputes in the church where good people can have different positions with disputable issues. Paul's warning then is still a relevant warning today: Don't destroy the work of God for the sake of your opinion. During COVID, many churches split over the disputable issue of wearing masks. Sad but true. Let's not win the argument but lose our testimony in the process. Key verse: "Do not destroy the work of God for the sake of _____." Romans 14:20

When this happens, we will live on a Merry-Go-Round of WHY's which will produce the absence of hope. The apostle Paul helps us take our eyes off of our suffering and to focus on the future glory God has for us. Often, our sufferings are part of God's divine purpose in our lives. This was accomplished by Jesus atoning for our sins on the cross. We are justified in God’s sight by faith, not by any works. Jesus paid a debt he did not owe because we owed a debt we could not pay. This is amazing grace! Key Phrase: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ.” Romans 3:23 -24

• This Series: We’d all like to think we’re nothing like Judas the betrayer, who traded Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. An honest look at our hearts reveals, however, that we all have things we trade for Christ every day. Whether it’s comfort, power, control, or some other idol, we all make our exchanges. As we approach Easter, this series invites us to repent and treasure Christ above every idol and temptation. • This Week: Following Jesus has never been easy. In our post-Christian American culture, it is not popular to follow Jesus. Increasingly, believers are facing opposition, ridicule, and rejection for their faith. Therefore, it is all too easy to quietly trade Jesus for safety. Every one of the disciples did this in the face of arrest in the Garden of Gethsemane. Peter did this again when he was accused of being a disciple of Jesus. When facing opposition, what will trigger the Judas in you? Key Phrase: “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.” Matthew 26:42
